Slide Stop Assault and Battery

OK, I reread the first post. I thought he wanted to open up the hole to decrease the battering.

I would still operate under the assumption if it's not broke don't try and fix it. Assuming the factory guessed at a spring rate they they got it incorrect doesn't mean that your guess is any better.
 
I mostly agree.
With the recommended factory Commander spring in my Randall Raider (Commander clone from the 70's) My slide would not lock back using factory hard ball ammo.
I went 2 lb softer on the spring and it works fine.

I can see going up 2 lb and maybe using a step stiffer mainspring for +P if it makes anyone feel better.

Its a balance.Subtle changes might be a good idea.The ammunition plays a big part in that balance.
