About TRIBES and SIGLINES and [name of your choice] Rules...

Many years ago a social observer named Eric Hoffer noted that recent converts to any political system or religion tended to be among the most strident "converters" of others to that belief system.

He said it was because the recent converts weren't fully comfortable with their new belief system and needed reinforcement.

When YOU, as a recent convert, prove to the "unwashed" or "ignorant" that your choice was the right choice, there's no better proof/reinforcement of the soundness of your earlier decision than seeing them repeat it!! So it is, perhaps, with many of the folks touting their handguns, cars, religions, or political beliefs.

I've found, over the years, that people confident in their beliefs don't have to convert others -- they just do or use what they do or use and enjoy their choices. (But when asked, will tell what they know.)

Perhaps some of our staunchest advocates here and on other forum are just a little NEW to the "game"?

The need to belong, the need for positive reinforcement, insecurity, immaturity, the inability to recognize the presence of other intelligence in the room . . . . some combination of all of teh above.

The dicotomy of an education is that the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know:eek:

Yep

More than what brand a person chooses I value more that a person is:

1. A law abiding gun owner

2. Practices safe storage

3. Always practices safe handling

4. Has taken at least one NRA certified safety course

5. Knows the importance of RKBA and belongs to NRA or GOA

Boy this thread sure hits the nail on the head! Not too long ago i was called a liar becaseu I mentioned that I had a band X pistol, model Y, through which I had fired over 10000 rounds with out a problem. The guy started disparaging my good name simply because he didn't like the type of gun I was referring to. :rolleyes:

Tamara, I think most of it is healthy. New guys buy their first and only gun so it has to be the "best" there ever was. Later on. . . .

In my experience, the more training hours you have in, the less you will be hung up about the weapon and realize that it is you, not the gun.

I used to think the M9 had no practical value and no serious shooter would ever carry one. THEN I saw what John Pride could do with one.

I can make strong arguments for the weapons I carry, a Les Baer 1911 and a Kahr, however, I realize that it is the individual, not the weapon that fights. Each to his own. Besides, without these guys I would have to think about the office all day. Geez, what fun is that?

I own quite a few high end firearms, that I like alot. I had bought a couple months ago a cheap CZ70 for $79.00 sight unseen, I was told it was junk because it could be had for under $100.00 and therefor would jam. I also wasn't a CZ50 which was a so called better gun. I was told this by people who never seen one in person or held one. Well I didn't listen to what anyone said and ordered it. I couldn't be more happy with it. I have not had a jam in the 400 rounds I have put through it. I wouldn't tell you it's better than a Kimber, Colt, Springfield, Sig ect. It is however a sweet little gun for a little price. I just laugh at the people who still make fun of me because I bought it. They don't make fun after they see it preform, though.:)

Are my Glocks better than my Kimbers? No they all have worked 100%. You don't have to spend $1000 or $2000 to get a good gun that you can bet your life on. I would trust my CZ70 in a pinch.

It's far simpler than anything mentioned so far. Some of us just plain suck when trying to express ourselves on paper.

I've had more than a bunch tell me I have a just plain nasty edge to the way I write. (Talk too, but hey, no one's perfect :D)

FWIW,
Guinness sucks.:barf: Tastes like floor sweepings.

AAARRRGHHH!!!

HEY! Somebody make C.R. Sam and Castle Bravo quit pickin' on me!!!
Moderator?
Rich?
Anyone?
Well, then, all yall suck. :D

And my Smith and Wessons all rule while your HKGLOCKSIGWALTHERs choke goats.

P.S. "Party" is not a verb, either.

Really All,
Guinness is Dinner! especially now as we approuch the winter months.

All this rangling about the glocksigberetta is just nuts, We should just respect other's freedoms to choose what best suits them. If they're willing to settle, good for them :p . /I mean come on, it should actually be us tribe glocksigberetta against those neaderthal jenningsLorcinHiPoint guys. We should choose our battles better. /end sarcasm ;)

"Silly little tribes"

Yeah, well here's my tribe:

http://home.earthlink.net/~gnappi/10user.htm

No 9mm nancy-boyz;

No .40 Swishy-Walkers ("Hey, it's almost a 10mm. No, really.");

No .355/9mm-bottle-necked Sigs ("But hey, it's a real 'magnum autoloader.' No, really.")

No .45s - a.c.p. (antiquated & clearly passe);

No .45 Super/SMC/Snotstompin' mutant rounds ("But hey, they're gonna make ammo for it someday. No, really.")

No $2000 .38 Casull - it's OOA (obsolete on arrival).

Why?

'Cause Chief Sonny said so. What? :D

Actually, this was one of the best threads I've read on TFL. Thanks for starting it, Tamara. :)
