SIG's "Legion" Series

The Legion series has caught my interest. I would like to find out more about what action work has been done to it at the factory. I don't ever send any of my pistols out for custom work but would welcome a little extra TLC at the factory keeping the factory warranty in place. A huge downside to me with custom work is that at resale time you get almost nothing extra for that custom work in many cases and not much extra at best in most cases.

I disagree with this. You do not get every penny you put into a custom gun but if you use a know smith like Gray Guns, Novak, Garthwaite, Yost, Burton, Harrison, Don Williams etc... keep your invoice and do not abuse the pistol you will get as much out of it as any used gun IMHO. 80-85%.

Maybe I missed it but I have not read anything that states the guns have any sort of extra action work done on them. They have the an Enhanced Action with SRT and a Gray Guns Intermediate Reach Adjustable Trigger.

I suppose that Enhanced Action SRT could mean trigger job?

Again I am not saying that this is a horrible deal I think that it is classic Cohen marketing and people will buy them but I think they are marketing oranges and selling you apples.

It's said there was a point in time the various makers would make commemoratIve product versions for just about anything. All of my stuff is just regular production.

Well I guess I have to eat my words. This was posted by Bruce Gray on the Sig forum....

You're right they did: it's a bargain for the upgrades in features, action, sights and finish. We priced out what it would take to roughly duplicate a Legion P226 DA/SA, assuming we could start with a bare frame and get the sexy grey Type 3 done after we were finished (which we can't). My checkering isn't cheap, just for starters. The micro polished action, add our trigger and a FAT rod, SIG's trick new XRAY sights...I can't touch this for a grand plus the gun. Look closely. It's the best value in a top-drawer service pistol in my humble opinion.

I'm really enjoying the great comments! I love being able to talk about this now!

It appears that the trigger group has been polished so it has an action job. I still wonder who is the person putting these guns together. Is it the custom shop or the standard line.

I'm pretty sure the action parts are actually coming out of Bruce's shop. He's been posting for a while that he has been working closely with them and that they were going to be making a big announcement that involved GGI work available from the factory.

So if you buy a Sig Super De Luxe, you get entry into the Sig Fan Club.

Fan Club membership includes a member's only keychain and access to the Fan Club exclusive newsletter.

Sigs are great pistols and all, but they make my wallet shriek in fright. The Sig Fan Club just seems a bit silly.

I might buy a police trade Sig some day as that's all I can really afford, but for now I don't want to bother with .40 S&W or a caliber conversion.

Pistol in the article itself looks excellent. I'd like to see a real review of the pistol, vs. the "P-R article" (I can't post what I'd really call the article) though to see how accurate it is. Saying it hit IDPA steel at 15 yards literally means nothing.

Everything else sounds like Sig is being marketed by people who believe their own BS.

Edit: Then I saw the $1,300 MSRP and thought - not in this world.

As others have noted, if you get a stock pistol with a trigger job you're there. I'd lose the sight and get a fiber optic sight.

Wow. He's saying it would cost a grand plus the gun to duplicate this otherwise? I'm not sure if that's a testament to how great of a deal this is, how expensive GGI is, or both. I have a lot of respect for Gray and I think he is likely the best in the business but given his company's connection with this product I don't think we can call him unbiased. This is likely a big boon for him too.

Seems like it is Gray's parts... Installed by Sig employees.

It's possible that a select few of the workers at Sig got a little training from Gray on assembly and parts selection and fit. So it wouldn't be an actual Gray trigger job, but above and beyond what a standard Sig would receive, in parts and fit.

Sig does have armorers who do factory trigger work, so it's not inconceivable that the Legion pistols get a little TLC.

While I roll my eyes at the marketing... If I didn't have a 226 Scorpion, I would get one of these.

I think that if you have interacted with Bruce Gray for any length of time you quickly realize that his comments and thoughts are not motivated by the all mighty $$$.

He has done many projects and tooled up to make parts to help the Sig community many of which he lost $$$ on because he saw there was a problem that need to be fixed. The P220 extractor for the stainless steel slides comes to mind.

I know enough to take him at his word. YMMV

Does not mean I am getting one but the more I hear comments like Bruce's the more I see value even with the stupid marketing gimmicks.

I appreciate the reviews put forth in the forums and realize the opinions are of one individual for each post. It seems, however, that once that opinion is made the horse is then beaten to death. In the review of the Leigon i would be interested in hearing from an individual who actually purchased the package (not a paid reviewer for a magazine) and can objectively report on his findings. I know my comments will draw the ire of those who can extract paragraphs from an article they read but my comments are simply to gain first hand information from a real user. I am an admirer of Sig but also of many other brands and enjoy the comments shared by posters of their actual experiences, good and bad.

I agree with your opening post TunnelRat. Gun does not get me the wow I have to have that. Price point has me personally has me turned off. For that money I would be looking at 1911's or the S&W 929

That's fair, all I am doing is pointing out that his opinion is likely to be slightly unbiased, if not for monetary reasons than for the pride of his own involvement. He's still a human being. This isn't me denigrating Gray, it's me pointing out the reality of the situation.

I guess I don't see why you can't have it both ways. The way I see this thread is as a way to talk about the relatively new product (initial impressions) and to gauge interest. Given how new this product is and the cost, it will likely be some time before you get firsthand reviews from regular members. Once that happens however it only makes sense to review the initial opinions and reconsider your interest. In the meantime at least it gives us something to talk about around the water cooler. I don't feel any ire towards you.

You might be on to something there. Recently there has been talk about a Grayguns "trigger job in a box" as referenced in the post 8 in the link below. Could there be work done beyond that? Sure but no details yet that I know of. In any case if it accomplishes the missions that is all I care about. To me personally the Legion series looks to be a good value. Will I buy one? Probably but not sure yet as I would like to fire one first. Hopefully SIG will be providing some for rental range use.
