SIG Sauer: The Break Up - Terrible Customer Service - Never Buy Used

Here's the first paragraph of Sig's warranty on their website (it may have been different six years ago):
SIG SAUER warrants that the enclosed firearm was originally manufactured free of defects in material, workmanship and mechanical function. For the lifetime of the original purchaser, SIG SAUER agrees to correct any defect in the firearm for the original purchaser by repair, adjustment or replacement, at SIG SAUER' option, with the same or comparable quality components (or by replacing the firearms at SIG SAUER' option); provided, however, that the firearm is returned unloaded and freight prepaid to SIG SAUER at 18 Industrial Drive, Exeter, NH 03833. . . .

I'm sorry, but the OP is not the original purchaser no matter how crappy the pistol was manufactured. It's not enough to say, "I should get special treatment because I'm a fanboy." What about the person who says, "This was my first gun and I was relying on the Sig name."

When I buy a used gun, I buy it knowing that I'll probably be responsible for any defects. That's one reason I don't buy used for my "serious use" guns. Sure, some manufacturers go over and above what they are required to do and that's something someone can put into the calculus of what to buy. But, IMO, it's not fair to lambast a company which merely abides by the terms of the warranty.

Full disclosure: I own three Sigs (P220 Compact, P238 and a 1911). However, I own three or more guns from each of several other manufacturers.

That's cool. Except I didn't demand anything. Again, you did not read.

No one but you has used the term "demand". I am not sure where anyone said you demanded a new pistol.

Also you have not answered a fundamental question.

Did you not know that a used Sig has no factory warranty when you purchased this LNIB pistol?

Well stated KyJim!

I agree that you didn't explicitly demand a new pistol, but that is the only recourse right? That certainly can't be fixed as the integrity of the frame is compromised in the long run, and I don't think they can weld a piece of aluminum on. I'm not saying you shouldn't be disappointed, but it was really replace or do nothing on their part.

The circle J is really cute, guys. I find it adorable.

But a machining issue from the factory isn't the fault of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or any other buyer. That's 100% the fault of the manufacturer and should be handled. Regardless of how many people personally dislike me. Separate me from the equation. The right thing to do with THIS particular issue, is to fess up and replace the firearm. If you disagree, good for you. You said your piece.

Some of you aren't shy of PMing me insults. Please, go back to that and stay off my thread with the personal garbage. I want it to stay open.

Ok, for whatever its worth I own two fairly recent SIG purchases and they’ve been excellent guns. Also, while there isn’t a SIG on my current “wish list” I would not hesitate to buy more in the future.

Now, I agree that technically SIG probably doesn’t owe the OP anything. However, after working in manufacturing and spending a few years in Customer Service there is almost always something that can be done to help ease the sting of a bad experience. It seems it would have been to their advantage to do something. Again, I’m not necessarily suggesting a replacement gun, but maybe a discount on a factory refurbished gun or something similar.

I think there were a lot of lines of recourse available. We also have to remember that Constantine has spent some time on trying to get the issue resolved and is likely not presenting himself in this thread as he initially presented himself to the initial SIG customer service representative. Its hard for us to make a judgement because we are seeing the situation explained by a clearly frustrated individual. There are some phrases used, by him, that can easily be noted by us to be alarming. I would doubt that they were used initially.

This thread does dissuade me from buying a used SIG in the future. Which oddly would mean I would buy a new one if I found one I could not live without. Which does not hurt SIG in any way.

I tend to agree that they should take care of it and make you whole but they are under no obligation to because you bought the pistol used and the warranty is for the original purchaser only.

I don't see where anyone but you is making this about you.
