Should you practice with your self defense gun? Answer Absolutely not.

On second thought, I read through your posting again and have drawn one glaring conclusion, you're an idiot. You apparently have been around firearms quite a bit and somehow have learned the opposite lessons of every normal person.

WR, you should get a Glock, that way you'll always be certain that it won't wear out and will fire every time when you need it ;) :D :D :p

I hope you were joking, but in case you weren't :barf:

WR...

No disrespect intended. I'd just like to know where you got the information that the .32 caliber Seecamp has a "given life of 1000 rounds".

Kentucky Rifle

That figure came from a gun magazine 2 years ago, an article about the Seecamp .380. Larry Seecamp was quoted as saying the Seecamp .380, not the .32, had an expected life of 1,000 rounds. Somehow it has been confused with the Seecamp .32.

That would depend on the gun.

I carry a S&W model 36 with a hammer nose, made in 1972.
I bought it used although the Smith I had look at it told me that the original owner probably fired only 100-200 rounds out of it.
Since I bought it Ihave fired about 1000 rounds out of it I try to practice with it every month at least.

The NRA self defense instructor at my club trains people for the Delaware CCW certificate. He has a S&W model 36 which he purchased in 1957. His model 36 probably has well over 100,000 rounds through it. The hammer nose was replaced once in 1978.

I definately trust this pocket carry gun, and I do train with it.
In a selfe defense situation the moves you make which will save your life must be second nature, and require no thought. This means lots of practice to be proficient.

If your carry gun wont stand up to use get a different gun.

Glock 26, S&W model 36 will both stand up to lots of practice.

If they didnt I would not consider carring them.

Wow! Some valid arguement's here-

But, if I'm going to bet my life, or the life of
a loved one on my CCW piece; then I'm damn sure
gonna know how it functions. Too many times
a firearm has been bought, and just laid in an
old drawer until needed; and by that time rust
and corrison have taken over and the P.O.S. wouldn't operate. So, yes I might wear out
my CCW; but it will be from use, not abuse.:D And
if I do, I will go buy another one.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.

Some great discussion here.

For me, I shoot my guns, keep them well maintained and dump them if I don't have faith in them . . . just like my cars. If you lose confidence in your defensive gun after X number of rounds, sell it when you get to 90% of that number.

WR, ah..yeah...whatever you say guy. Maybe you should get rid of all your weapons and you won't have to worry about one failing on you.

WR,

Are you related to the Furry Russian?

Ted Nugent on concealed carry: "To my mind, it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic.... What kind of spineless dolt would dare venture forth virtually incapable of wiping his or her nose or surviving the vicious predator mentality of the paroled masses on the planet of the apes? Not I, sayeth the guitarboy."
;)

Used to be a pro quarterback who practiced as little as possible, never worked out, and refused to warm up before a game. "The body is like a bar of soap--it only has so many washings in it" he said.

Of course, that was totally foolish. Of course you have to strike a balance, but your gun is a mechanical device. Use it right and maintain it and it will be fine.

Yep, the only way to be sure there is no wear and tear on your self defense gun is to not take it out of the box, not load it, and in fact, I would suggest not buying it.

Sure enough, you don't want to shoot your self defense gun, not even in self defense.

I really have to agree with CANIS. That is all too darn weird to be believed.

No disrespect intended. I'd just like to know where you got the information that the

It came from Larry Seecamp himself. If you look into the archives I think you may find it. W.R.

Larry did state that the 9mm had to have its recoil spring replace every 200 rounds and that the gun would be shipped with at least two of them

My own seecamp .32 has already shown extreme wear and deterioration after only 200 rounds of fire. It shocked even me and I am very used to seeing guns wear out because of the thousands of rounds of practice that I have shot through various weapons over the years. W.R.

Apparently what I wrote in the "reliability test" thread bears repeating here as well. Absolom and others, pay close attention to this:

Folks, let's keep the posts bashing or otherwise criticizing any member to a minimum - namely zero. Criticize his conclusions, theories, or statements all you wish, but not the member himself. To do so is strictly against TFL policies, both written and unwritten.

Thanx, W.R., but always remember I don't think of myself as any sort of Guru, and I can have Senior Moments as easily as any other certified Old Fart. :)

buzz_knox, you're sorta pickin' nits on me. Distance will affect the tactics, no matter what the kind of handgun, but the basics are pretty much the same. Sure, you're correct about close range, but we weren't talking tactics. If it's up close and personal, I guess that's why the Lord gave me hips, so I'd have some place to shoot from.

The main thing is, let's don't shoot from the lip. :D

As usual,

To Absolom

This has got to be one of the stupidest threadstarters, containing b.s. information, that I've ever read anywhere. I'm convinced that SOMEBODY's got brown instead of white around his pupils.

Your pretty good at running your mouth off but offer no posts of your own experiences or philosophy.

I guess it takes a man to post his thoughts and endure the criticism that is sure to follow.

It is the coward that posts nothing but criticism. That not only takes very little brain power but does not open ones self to criticism.

Your own ego will not allow you to do this. You might be proved fallible and that you would never except. W.R.

Are there any other expatriates from "ShootersTalk" who are picking up some semblance of "Hardin" in W.R.'s posts? Handwriting analysis is an inexact science at best and, of course, impossible here, but I can't help but feel a Hardin-esque vibe in these upset-the-apple-cart posts.

If I am incorrect (or if others have no idea what I'm talking about), to W.R. et omni I offer my most sincere apology.

vanfunk:confused:

vanfunk - I think you owe WR more than a "sincere apology", you owe him a Shiner. To even suggest that he is Hardin does him a great disservice, more than any of the other bashing he usually gets.

Seriously, he isn't Hardin. Vee haf our vays to determine dis, und he iss not Hardin. :D
