Should I stop supporting a LGS

I can't help but wonder if the guy who wanted to make the buy got a lot more guidence, research, and direction than he really wanted.QUOTE]

I believe this in fact is the case now that I look back and listening to you guys . It's likely he was just looking for a " yeah that sounds good " . I can get a little gung hoe when it comes to firearms so that's on me .

You seem to know a lot more details of exactly what we wanted and what he would be using it for than he did.

Well I think that may be correct as self absorbed as that sounds . I've watched him buy gun after gun he ends up not liking or does not shoot much . Longer range shooting is kinda my thing so when he asked for the help I thought he was asking because of my knowledge of that type of shooting . I was just trying to help him make a rational choice

I have a 13lb 308 with muzzle brake . He loves shooting it and often comments how it has very little recoil . He also talks about how it is so accurate and how well he can shoot it compared to his rifles . This was just another factor I was thinking about when helping with the research .

I think I now understand what he was asking for and what he wanted were two different things . So yes I did know what he was asking to buy more then he did . The problem seems to be that was not what he really wanted . I think if his budget would have been a tad higher we could have gotten on the same page .

As for the not supporting the gun store . The question was more about the firearm he suggested then it was thinking he should have ate the cost of the test . I was just thinking out loud about the test . I wish I would have asked the store owner . " so how many Teka T3 wood stocked light sporter barrel long range rigs do you run ? I mean if it's such a good choice for long range bench or prone shooting . You must have at least one ;)

How many of you have a bi-pod and scope with exposed target turrets on your Teka T3 ? :) The Teka at the store would have just looked plain silly like that .

Sounds like you have done some introspection.
No put down here, something I had to learn for myself.
You opened the post unhappy with your friend, and unhappy with the gunshop.
That is about your own unhappiness, yes?
When we observe an event,we could observe it the way a rock would observe it.As an objective witness. But,no,we assign meaning to the event. Then we make the choice, how we feel about it.One way or another, from the meaning you assigned to this transaction, you chose to be unhappy.Once you accept that ownership, you can choose to be rather indifferent. You can choose to be happier. That is claiming your power.

One way to become powerless, unhappy, and frustrated that your expectations are not being met,is to try to write the script someone else is supposed to play.
Hopefully, they will be a self responsible individual, consider your advise, but make their own choices.Whether it works or not,let them own the experience.

You'll be happier.Maybe they will be,too.

Oh,I took a Husky 5000 small ring magnum action,Surface ground all the critical surfaces square and true, recut all the locking surfaces parallel and square, lapped the lugs, fitted a 1 in 10 26 in Lilja #4 bbl 30 cal bbl, ordered an Elliot 30-338 reamer, steel bedded /free floated it in a 20 oz HiTec Specialties stock.Canjar had made me a trigger for that rifle long ago.I ballistic program built that rifle to trajectory match a 2900 fps 200 gr Accubond to the Leupold B+C reticle hash marks at 7500 ft and elk hunting temp(I forget what)
It hasa 3.5 to 10 VX3 by 40mm Leupold on it.

It shoots just fine. Its not a "sniper rifle".I'm not even a wannabe sniper.I don't spend time thinking about killing people. And I'm not in the Military or an LEO.
I did not build the rifle for the target range.

I built a 600 yd elk rifle.IMO,thats plenty "long range",and then some. Then I lost interest in shooting at an elk at 600yds.Still,I built one fine tool.It weighs a little over 8 lbs.It does not look silly

I machined up some two screw sling QD mounts, screwed them to stainless Tee-nuts bedded in cotton flocked West system epoxy.I sure can hang a Harris bipod on,if I choose. But I find them clunky on a hunting rifle.

IMO,13 lb rifles are cool,if you are riding around in a pickup.I believe in boots.
Get up to 7500,to9000 ft altitude, anything from snow to doghair ,oak brush to scree and tallus,or beaver swamp, ridges and canyons where if you aren't going up or down, you are sidehilling...8 lbs is plenty of rifle to carry.

Advice

I was in to RC aircraft for a lot of years. On several occasions guys would call me for advice on getting in to RC. What followed were long long conversations and advice giving. I remember my ear hurting from the phone pressing against it so long.

In every case, when I saw them at the flying field, they had not followed my advice. Oh well. I still gave out advice, at length when asked, and went my merry way. Not my money. No problem. Trying to help is about the best you can do. After that it's up to them.
