Shooting on own land! Should one feel guilty?

HiBC, I truly commend you!

On 1 mile sq property you could have prob found a safe spot to shoot, but I sure wish some of the others on here would have the sense you do! To say they can shoot with a 125yd range on 3 acre plot into a 5ft backstop is so dangerous I cannot even imagine! 3 acre = about 700 foot max length.... - 125yd (375ft) means there is only a max of about 300 feet behind the backstop of 5 foot - which is so ludicrous I am embarrassed to see it written here.

Again, bullets that miss the backstop will go 10-15,000 feet - how in the h_ll does someone justify shooting into something like this? they must be god to never miss a 5 foot little backstop at 125 yds!

This is what will backfire on all of us who shoot safely!

That's why I don't leave guns laying around and unsecured. You're welcome to do what you wish with your guns.

Helpful advice on using you're vs. your.

Duh! YOU'RE right Beretta. And you can do what you want with YOUR guns. If someone knew you had many guns from hearing different calibers fired,I wouldn't imagine they'd expect to see them laying around on tables. Big safes are good, but I've always liked good hiding places too.
Thanks for the grammar class.

I learned at a very young age to ALWAYS know YOUR. backstop and range of the round being fired.
I'm used to hearing gunshots around the ranch and don't think too much about it, as do the neighbors. What seemed a little odd was when the ammo panic set it and didn't hear any for a few weeks.
It would still be considered impolite to target shoot early Sunday morning or at night.

When I'm shooting at my 5' backstop I can see my next door neighbor in my scope on his riding lawn mower. I just wait till he's out of my scope before I pull the trigger.

But,back at the firing point,I could always see someone's place well within the 180 degrees.Actually, maybe only 20 or 30 degrees off what would be my line of fire.Sure, maybe a mile away,but...

I thought, what if my family was on that place downrange.

I picked up my stuff and left without firing a shot.

I have no regret.

And that's knowing the possible capabilities of the ammo you're shooting, using common sense that you did not have a sufficient backstop to stop a possible riccochet , being respectful of others and in general, being a responsible shooter.

Good on ya HiBC.

My neighbor will occasionally shoot several hundred rounds on a Sunday afternoon. He is about 200 yards across the road shooting in to a bank in his pasture. I don't care. But, I asked my wife if that shooting bothered her and she said what shooting. I was a little puzzled, but I guess my question was answered.

It's "lying" around, not "laying" around. And you missed his use of "alot", which isn't a word. Hey, if you're going to be a Grammar Nazi, at least use correct grammar yourself and don't miss the most obvious things! ;)

You can always tell when a thread has just about run its course and guys have run out of things to argue about.

The grammar Nazi's appear. :D

Well FML. A jarhead correcting a Ranger's spelling. If you keep this up, soon I'll be okay with Marines doing things besides cleaning the latrines and pulling security. :D
