Shooter in Montreal - Dawson College (merged threads)

They need to allow folks in Canada (not not to mention our very own USA) less restrictive means to carry concealed handguns. As in most of these situations, a weapon in the hands of a lawful citizen could have stopped it before it got out of control.

I am going to very carefully not hijack this thread, but I will say that the issue would have been moot here because many, if not most, of the studentswould not have been 21 and would not have been legally carrying. And it's a totally different thread to discuss whether 21 is a reasonable age or too restrictive. I'm not going to go there. I'm just saying that they wouldn't have been carrying. Nor would the teachers.

It would not have mattered if it had been here. That's my point. Canada bashing is ignorant in this case.

Lets agree to blame this one on the French, then? :(

Really, though. They are doing all they can to categorize this sick bastard. He's a goth, a gun nut, a loner......etc.

How about he is just a very disturbed person who doesn't fit neatly into a one column width headline that you can publish easily. Forget boxing him into something you can sell, think about the families of those who went to that school, not knowing if their friends/loved ones were ok? Or about those wounded or dead.

I hope that this bastard, without the grace to realize all the things that were going right in his life, is turning on a spit in hell.

This is only indirectly related but I'm surprised at the lack of a thread on the subject.

There was a shooting at the college my daughter attends, Shepherd U. in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. It happened the Saturday before Labor Day and my daughter was at home here in bucolic Fairfax County, Virginia. It seems two students, both seniors, were shot and killed by a relative. The first newspaper report said father but the school's website just said relative. There has been practically no mention of it otherwise and life at the school goes on. Yes, there were the usual counselors made available but I don't think it shook people up as much as it might have.

By the way, the school mascot is a sheep--you all should love that and they have a live one, too. Only it is a male, a ram, just like Dodge!

Elmer Keith tells of when he was in college and brought his sixgun along because someone had threatened him. There were a lot of threats in his life story. Anyway, the professor said it was OK and told the other students to leave his gun alone because Keith needed it.

My gripes with this thread...

Ok. First, to all of you who blame the students for getting shot because they were not carrying, exposing themselves to the "perils of this cold, cruel world" or whatever... SHAME ON YOU!! Innocent people got KILLED for Pete's sake!!! This is WHY WE ALL CARRY, so stuff like this won't happen! It's not a good thing, it's not fuel for a political debate, and it's not something to make light of! Close to two-dozen people's children got shot up, and you are trying to say it was their FAULT. Shame on you all!

Second, there has been alot of report in the news about this nut-job's personal internet accounts, his photographs pointing his weapon(s) at the camera, and what not... I CARE, WHY?!?!?!? Who gives twelve-flying-flips whether this guy was unhappy, depressed, or generally what made him tick?!?! He's a mass-murderer! Forget him! He does not deserve to have his life plastered all over my television set each night! All I see is a suicide-bomber who happened to be unlucky enough to be born in the wrong COUNTRY!!!

And, speaking of countries, let's introduce my friend, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!! Captain Obvious likes to post accounts of how screwed up the French Canadians are! I know those surrender-monkeys are living in a messed-up system. YOU know they're living in a messed-up system. Why do we need to HEAR that they are living in a messed-up system?

Really, I'd like to quit talking about this guy, whatever his name is. He didn't shoot all those people because his mother beat him as a child. He didn't shoot all those people because he was the last one picked at Dodgeball. And, he didn't shoot all those people because his COAT WAS THE WRONG LENGTH AND COLOR!!! (I was in the black-trenchcoat mafia WAY before Columbine, and I never shot anyone...) This guy shot all those people because he was CRAZY. Period. End of list. This guy was just nuts.

Quit blaming this event on things that did NOT lead to its occurrence. Quit blaming the anti's. Quit blaming the Canadians. And, for the love of all that's holy, quit blaming the dead children!

Blame the wacko. It's HIS fault.

Anyone who voted FOR Canuck gun control, or enforced/endorsed the university policy against firearms, and got shot, I have no sympathy for.
It was probably their parents... and I especially feel sorry for them because they are suffering with the guilt of having voted away the ONE chance their kids had of survival no matter how slim that chance was...

Only armed teachers, custodians or campus guards and other adults could have maybe helped in this situation...

As I said above... I thought the Canooks had outlawed handguns and assault rifles... I think it was more foolhardy than foolproof!!!

So that nut, loner, goth or whatever...was BREAKING the law!!!!

They should lock him up for life, and not let him out one day less than 7 years!!!

Damned Liberals!

Beretta CX4. I can't tell the caliber.

This was a college campus, so presumably some of the victims were over 18 and eligible to serve in the military and kill Taliban, legal adults except for the second-class-citizen status imposed upon them until they reach the age of 21.

and again

This was a college campus, so presumably some of the victims were over 18 and eligible to serve in the military and kill Taliban, legal adults except for the second-class-citizen status imposed upon them until they reach the age of 21.

Once again, however, we cannot throw rocks at the Canadians for not empowering what we ourselves do not do either. Nor do you all have a CLUE that

Anyone who voted FOR Canuck gun control, or enforced/endorsed the university policy against firearms, and got shot, I have no sympathy for.

What in the world????? You can now mystically know how individual parents voted???? You're psychic?????

Actually the Canuckistanis can drink at 19

I assume the frothing at the mouth commando squad never goes into a place, even were illegal, without carrying a gun.

If such a person, for example, had to go to the hospital with their child and couldn't carry - then if a nut shot said person and child - would we then not feel sympathy for the child because his or her parent chose not to break the law for the higher divine calling of gun rights?

I, however, would feel sorry for the child of frothing mouth commando.

Some people just disgrace themselves.

Wow, don't bother veiling any of your contempt, some of you.

Funny, how us having the second amendment didn't keep Columbine from happening. It hasn't kept kids from going and shooting up schools all over the country. If gun control doesn't prevent crime, neither does RKBA create a protective aura over every school in an RKBA state.

Well, let's be a bit more honest than you're being, and point out that if TEACHERS at Columbine would have been legally allowed to be carrying guns, one or more of them might have been doing so and been able to confront and possibly stop the shooters early.

I never said that the students should be blamed for not having guns. I blame society at large for making it illegal and unacceptable for the students to have guns. If I could have had a license to carry in college, I would have done so. So yeah, the U.S. and Canada are equal in that sense. But then, I didn't go specifically bashing Canada.
