I am curious where you heard Taurus was discontiuing their .44 Specials? After a quick call to our salesman, I was told the 445 was still in production and that you could see their site for pictures of it's 12 variations. See the link below and select .44 Special as a caliber.

If you truly want a .44 Special and you are use to .357's, I would suggest a S&W 696, you can find them used at a fair price. Great gun, same frame as most .357's, it is one of my two carry guns, I alternate. Although, the .357 has alot of charm as well. :)

Vaquaro's discontinued?

whats this about ruger discontinuing the "old model" vaquaro's? whats an old model vaquaro? and why are they being discontinued I thought they were a hot seller with cowboy shooting being so popular?

All "old" Vaquero models are now out of production. The New Vaqs are downsized & available in .357 Mag & .45 Colt, blue & stainless, in the traditional three barrel lengths. The new guns have features that people have been requesting from Ruger for several years.

I just want to go on record that I was not one of the folks who PMd/emailed .44 mag as a Denis Pris partisan. :) All I've got to say, I said here.

(I think I'm over my brief .44 excitement and back into my .38/.357/.41 place - although a 696 would still be neat.)
