Self defense ammo:

Well, I carry a Wilson Combat .45 auto (1911) myself and sometimes a Glock 21 in same caliber. I always load both of them with Fedraly Hydra-Shoks because they work, period... Have sent tons of rounds down range with both of these pistols and have never experience a single problem with this particular round. It is expensive to practice with high quality ammo like this, but I want to shoot what I carry for self defense. To me, this eliminates any questions regarding dependability and confidence with my SD rounds.

...Wont do much good if it jams in the pistol. You all mis understand this important point....
Well I don't. The JHP ammunition I use in my self defense guns has proven reliable in those guns. So no worries there.

...If the round will penetrate a cow it will surely penetrate a human or am I missing something here?...
By that logic, one should be using .470 Nitro Express solids on Whitetail Deer, since the .470 works so well on Cape Buffalo.

...Good ammo isnt all it takes, gotta hit the target to take it down...
But I can hit just as well with good ammunition (JHPs) as with FMJ. But I'm going to generally get better terminal performance with JHPs.

Fiddle, I dont give a rats behind what you use or shoot. Or what anyone else shoots, all I care about is what works for me.

is expensive defense ammo really worth the cost?

Not an original question, but how much is your life worth?

Interesting that you ask if expensive ammo is worth the cost. Maybe a better way to ask the question is whether the advanced technology is better able to protect your life.

Based on shooting cows? Where two legged critters are concerned, bullets that both expand well and penetrate adequately have been proven to be more effective. Such ammo tends not to bounce off Bubba's ribs.

You made it obvious in your first post that the only opinion that counts is yours. Thanks for sharing.

So I guess that when you posted your opinion you weren't looking for discussion, just agreement.
