Scary; Glad this guy is not wearing a badge anymore

If I do my part, the badguy goes to jail, if I don't he goes free. That's the way it should be.

I have never lost a case on a "technicality". I have lost cases due to my mistakes, I have lost cases due to the fact that the defendant had a great lawyer, and I have lost cases due to the 50/50 shot you have if it goes to jury trial.

I hold no ill will towards those who get off due to a good attorney. Thats why the system works the way it does. If I ever need an attorney, you can bet its gonna be the sneakiest, nastiest, most expensive one I can find.

I suggest everybody reading this thread take Rich's suggestion and email Dan Corsentino, thanking him for making a stand for our constitutional rights.

sheriff@co.pueblo.co.us

I've sent mine, and I have a phone call in to Jim Billings.

It might do double good, as Dan is running for sheriff again this fall, and his opponent, Kirk Taylor, www.kirk4sheriff.com is anti-gun. Dan has always stood up for our gun rights. I believe he is smart enough to use a bunch of endorsements from all over the nation to his advantage in this election.

This ass Savelli probably could have prevented a few crimes if he had just sauntered into people's houses without any probable cause and just started poking around, too. :barf:

Agreed, it's a very good thing that he is no longer a cop. He never should have been -- not with that attitude about the rights of the public.

Just got this email back from Dan Corsentino:
Larry,
I was completely dismayed that a person could come into our community and infect us with that type of thinking. I will not tolerate any civil right abuses. I will fire people on the spot should that happen.
Sheriff Dan
Anybody else get an answer?

This ex-cop is the reason that New Yorkers still give up their 2nd amendment rights--cops are there to protect them!!

Larry-
Obviously not a canned response....here's what I got back:
Rich, thank you. I will not tolerate abuse of people or constitutional
violations of civil rights. This Sgt. Was clearly out of line and I
detested his comments... Sheriff Dan

You know, People, I think we must have a whole bunch of Cop Haters in "Civil Liberties" clothes here. NOT ONE PERSON but Larry has rallied around the Good Cops that have publicly stood against Savelli's comments in their back yard.

Do these guys count for nothing to y'all?
Or do they just not fit with the view of the world that you'd like to complain about?

Personally, sometimes I feel that TFL is doing more harm than good...as evidenced when it turns into a mutual circle jerk for whiners, hand wringers, angry young rednecks and life's underachievers. Not pointing any fingers. But, if the shoe fits, kindly Get Off My Frequency.

Rich,

I will post my response upon reciept.

I have been away from the monitor for a bit today.

I posted this same thread at THR with an Advisory. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=212399

Personally I feel as you do, that being "we" are our own worst enemies in dividing ourselves and not sticking together on common goals.

Oleg and Rich supply the bandwith for THR and TFL respectively. Neither they or Staff should have to baby-sit "we" members.

I should not have had to post an Advisory on "attacking the argument, not the member posting", I did because instead of Folks reading Rules of Conduct, or Sending in Support for "OUR" common goals ...like an email.

Folks would rather bash , trash and divide "Us" further.

I will post my reply when received.

There is more to responsible firearm ownership than firearms

He will not tolerate "constitutional violations of civil rights"?

What is a "constitutional" violation of a civil right? :p

I'd prefer if he were more ardently opposed to UNconstitutional violations of civil rights.

A CONSTITUTIONAL violation of a civil right, it seems to me, would be like restricting a person's right to freely assemble because he's been convicted of a crime and imprisoned... ;)

What's your point? This is not from some slick-lipped politician with speech writers behind him. It's a dashed off email response from a working, elected official.

Is your glass always half full? Is that the way you represent the rest of us to the world? Come to think of it....don't answer.
Rich

Just read this thread and I have to admit, i was not surprised at all at Savelli's comments and tactics.
I am heartened though to hear the Sheriff's denouncement of this scrotum, and I sincerely hope that he jumps on the cohones {with both feet}of any officer under him who is found to employ these methods.
Kudos to him and his department.

They sponsored a speaker who is encouraging Peace Officers to break the law!!!! Unbelievable.

Maybe... But I'm not so sure...

He said lean on them not break them... The perps that is...
The people he wants to "lean" on are the scum of society...

TRUE,cops do need to be held accountable to keep them from over doing it,,, But several decades ago it was common practice to 'lean" on the criminal element in order to get at the "roots" of the trouble...

Criminals used to respect LEO's, and Convicts used to fear the "Screws".

Today, it's just the reverse because the LEO's hands have been tied by liberal bureaucrats and Judges that release "guilty" into the mainstream of society on technicality.

If a man's mirandas are violated punish the cop... But don't let the criminal walk because a LEO fouled up... If the criminal is guilty he is guilty even if the cop gets fired for stepping on his rights.

In the old days the cops knew better than to hassle the common citizen and the common citizen respected their authority and were damned grateful for the job the LEO's did...

I have worked with some few bad cops... But a damn sight more damned good ones were working hard to rid the streets of crime... and both types were known to "lean" on the scum and lean on their civil rights a little...

We had a petty little criminal in the holding cell who was yelling expletives and spitting on anyone who got too close to the cell... The patrol sergeant told me to lock him in the holding cell with the perp... He "leaned" on him for a few minutes and we didn't hear another peep out of him the rest of the shift... And nobody saw a thing! We were all on "break" at the time. Even the perp said he slipped on some dog**** and hurt himself. :) ;)

I guess it's all in how you define bending the law and leaning on rights.

I say, cut them some slack and keep a close eye on them... Then MAYBE you'll see some pride in the hearts of the LEO's and some self-respecting smiles that come from a job well done.

I've BTDT and mostly the LEO's just want to do their jobs without having the liberal-bleeding-hearts breathing down their necks for every little POS technical infraction...

Let them be cops again and there will be a hell of a lot more Frank Serpico's coming out of the fog we currently call the rat-maze of law enforcement and BS of criminal justice...!!

Dan Corsentino is no silver-tongued orater. What he is is a pretty darned good lawman who has taken the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department from a little podunk outfit trying to cover umpteen hundred square miles, to a state-of-the-art department doing a pretty good job covering one of the biggest counties in Colorado.

He issued my carry permit.

Jim Billings and Dan Corsentino are both personal friends of mine, and I have sent a link of this thread to both. (And I sent a copy and paste copy of Rich's letter to Dan to Jim Billings {yes, I have his personal email address}.)

They are both busy men, but either one or both may be answering this thread.

I know for a fact that both have read it.

The Sheriff

I am sure he is busy and the fact that he returns the e-mail is very appreciative. I have also written, if I get a response or not is fine.

He is probably getting so much mail complaining right now, he is happy to see some that backs him up.

Pueblo is a nice area, very fortunate to be able to be in an area like that and work in nice country. I'll bet he has his hands full about now (of e-mails good and bad).:)

It's not easy for me to write such notes -- I'm undiplomatic, opinionated and discursive -- but I have done so.

Rich is right. If we don't cheer on the good ones, sooner or later we'll run out of them. Do we want the Lou Savellis of the world to be the only folks willing to tackle police work?

Savelli looks to be a real piece of work.he should never had been a person that deals directly with the public, in any cirmstances, with that kind of thinking. This is the type of guy would make excuses to visit the bathroom so that he might examine the contents of the medicine cabinet and drawers at his families' home.

perhaps he believes he is just bending the law a bit when he may be already over the line.

See my sig line....

Always refuse consent to search, and don't even answer the question until you are free to go. Then at least you have a chance to beat any manufactured beef on illegal search grounds, which you can't do if you invite them to snoop.

Seems to me like he would be willing to lie about getting permission to seach as well. Anyway, I agree that at some point in the future this will be the norm, but ATM there are still to many good cops on the street for it to happen.

Rich stated - You know, People, I think we must have a whole bunch of Cop Haters in "Civil Liberties" clothes here.

Jeez Rich, ya think...

Did you not ban TBO from this site for posting in the same manner?

Mr. Wildcards diatribes equal that and then some. Why the disparity Rich?

Diatribes??? Diatribes against LEO's abusing their authority. Agains corruption. Against special treatment for LEO's. If you have a problem with my views on the above, you might want to turn in your badge.
