Savage or Remington

Can anyone tell me about the Savage 25 LWT VAR T 204 RUG or the Remington 700 SP Synthetic VAR 204 RUG. I am not sure as to which one would be better. Any help would be great.

Depends on what you want, a good shooting ugly rifle (Savage), or a good shooting good looking rifle (Remington). Savages look like they are made out of spare parts, with a big ol' barrel nut holding them together, but they're cheaper; Remingtons are very pleasing to the eye, look a lot better finished, but cost a few dollars more. Either will shoot well.

That sounds about right. I need the better shooting rifle out of the box. I am on a small buget and can not make any real changes to what ever rifle I get.

i was raised on rems to but now adays i dont know about them i have two savages and going to get anouther one soon i like the way they shoot alot better than the rems i have and have had

Savage, I will state my reasoning.
I like the 3 position safety on the savage better.
I never have liked a Remington 700 safety.

So it seems as if it is going to be a matter of what i like best in looks and price. It sounds as if they are about equal in accuracy.

MOA I hear savage rifles are some very nice shooters.
I have been a way from the gun market for a while and really surprised that Rem was building ar style rifles and 1911's??? Also surprised that remington was sold and has had some problems??? I guess I am lucky that all my Rem bolts are older BDLs.
I just found this site while looking for reloading forum and have really enjoyed all of the information available here

Savage,........... and I held a Ruger today but,.... I'll stick with my savage I have the model 12 VLP DBM in .204 26'' SS barrel, wood lam stock and I would have to say the savage shine in comparsion to the remy. I own remy's but the Savage is the way to go.... And got her bigger brother in .223 both are shooters.

I wouldn't buy a M25 Savage over the Remington 700. I don't know much about the 25 but I don't think they are as good of shooters as the M10 Savages. I think the M25 is just a beefed up version of their rimfire action.

I've never found where the Savage is that much more accurate out of the box that an average shooter could tell the difference. I like Savage's as well but I agree with Scorch they are ugly. If I could change barrels out as easily on a Remington as I could a Savage I doubt I'd own any.

Although Savage does not offer an accuracy garuantee, every new Savage I've fondled was a sub-moa rifle out of the box. I have shot 700s ala the M40. They shoot tight groups, but they were built specifically for it so they should.

In all reality, though, either rifle will serve you well. If you do not like the look of a Savage and are willing to pay more for the Remmy based off looks, then there's certainly nothing wrong with that. The Savage stands a good chance of being more accurate. As someone already pointed out, you won't notice the accuracy difference unless you are a fairly accomplished shooter.

Well I like to think I am a good shoot. I have been around guns most of my life and have been in the army foa almost 24yrs. Thanks for all the info. I think the Savage may be it.

Savage:
-Accutrigger
-Price
-3 position safety

I keep hearing how Remington looks better, but in my opinion that only counts on the wood stock rifles. Their synthetic stock guns such as the VTS or SPS are just as hideous to me personally as any other. Rubbermaid/Tupperware. Looks like a kitchen accessory. Only a couple of manufacturers make synthetic stocks that I personally find appealing to the eye or touch.
