Smith and Wesson does that with their IL revolvers also. Sports are ButterFace rifles. I still love mine though.

What's with people calling it a sporter?

It's not people, it's just me. Thanks for the PM to help me out.
That's what I thought is was called. My bad.

Still a great entry AR for me.

Details, details.

Pro - it's a great entry-level AR-15
Con - if you buy something else, it will cost you more money.

All you have to do is ask yourself the important questions:

0) Are there a lot of people saying bad things about the rifle? (No, not that I've noticed)

1) Are you willing to spend the money on upgrades that you will inevitably want to make?

2) Can it shoot both brass and steel-case ammo? (Yes, it can)

3) Is the barrel 5.56 NATO compatible. (Yes, it is)

I can not offer any reason not to buy one as your first AR. However, I can guarantee you're going to want to change it to fit you and your needs.

This rifle continues to amaze me. :D Another 200+ rounds downrage. Zero problems. I have always wanted to know if this is an MOA rifle, the answer is simply yes. :)

My buddy brought his RRA with a new Nikon M-223 1-4X Point Blank Reticle. That is one nice scope. On my want list, might have moved to the top.

Every time I read someone post crappy trigger, I think, the person is used to aftermarket triggers or someone who can't shoot well with the rifle and therefore has to blame something.

My "crappy trigger" feels better than some of the issued rifles I have qualified on. I guess those rifles had "really crappy triggers."

I have a M&P15a and it came with a "really crappy trigger". The trigger weight was something around 10 pounds. I could hang the entire rifle off the trigger without it breaking.

It was bad... really bad. I have shot good AR triggers and my S&W was the worst I've ever felt on a rifle, My century arms AK has a better stock trigger. The only gun I've shot with a worse trigger was the Sigma... hmm.. another S&W with a poor trigger... Might just mean something...

If you don't like the trigger of such a poor product, what do you still have it?

I feel bad for you for getting a crappy trigger from Smith and Wesson.

I felt my Sport trigger was heavy at 7lbs. but I understand that this isn't un-common for this type of platform. It did break fairly clean without a lot of gravel in the pull. I used the J-P spring set, lightly polished the sear area with Flitz by dry firing, cleaned it all up and used a 60% moly paste on all moving parts in the FCG. I got the pull down to 4-4 1/2lbs with a nice crisp break. Cost...under $20. It is reliable and safe.
The gun has potential without spending a lot of money IMO.

1Hobie - man you gonna put these trigger companies out of business with that recipe.

I don't know what my trigger pull weight is but I must be one of the lucky ones that got a good enough trigger on my Sport. I don't have any problem with the OR and 15-22 either.

Thanks but I didn't come up with that trigger mod. Just read it over on the the other forum that's dedicated to a certain brand.
It does work, at least for me. I had to go down to the asylum and put the gauge back on the Sport to make sure I wasn't confusing it with my 15-22s. Sho' nuff, it breaks at around 4 1/2 lbs consistently. There is a bit of take up but it's light and the break is clean. There is a mod. using a set-screw up through the pistol grip that will reduce the pre-travel but I'm not going to recommend it as there is a potential for safety issues. Do a google on it and you'll find many references to it.
I've experimented with it at a closed range in case the gun decided to take on a life of it's own and didn't have anything bad happen. That doesn't mean it won't but it didn't for me. I took it back out to be safe. If i need an adjustable trigger, I'll spend the money on one of the favorite flavors going around.
The main thing is to be safe not sorry.
Good shooting to all and to all a good night.
Hobie sleepy.....zzzzz

I never said it was a poor product or that I was unsatisfied in any way with it.

It came with a crappy trigger.... I've swapped it out with a some JP springs that are very inexpensive. I'm not going to sell or trade away a entire rifle when I can easly remedy the problem in less than 3 minutes with nothing more than a punch and flat surface to work on.

No firearm or manmade object is 100% perfect. And assuming someone dosen't know how to shoot because they say the rifle came with a poor trigger is just wrong.

Every time I read someone post crappy trigger, I think, the person is used to aftermarket triggers or someone who can't shoot well with the rifle and therefore has to blame something.

Read the first part of what I posted.

Now read your bash of S&W triggers and a slam of the manufacturer.

And good for you for doing something about the crappy trigger.

The only problem with this model right now is that nobody can get them. I have the mo

Try hoffgun.com/specials.htm, I know that it says on store for the MP15 sport but they do sell online and maybe they will be willing to include this model for you. They have it for 599. Don't know if this is a good price compared to other places. Just bought one from them.

Now read your bash of S&W triggers and a slam of the manufacturer

Not bashing or slaming anything. Just stating my opinions based on my personal experiance. Sorry if you don't like it, but when you seperate your ego from your possesions you can give an honest opinion about them.

Just because I didn't like the stock trigger doesn't mean its a bad rifle or I'm going to sell or trade it. Also talking about the excessively heavy trigger isn't bashing S&W. Saying the Sigma has a "crappy trigger" isn't bashing S&W either. Its just stating an opinion.

As for aftermarket triggers. The M&P15 is the only gun I own with a aftermarket trigger in it. So if anything I'm "used" to stock triggers.

hmm.. another S&W with a poor trigger... Might just mean something...

What did you exactly mean by this? Seems like you were implying that S&W are poor products.

My ego is not attached to what I own. If I think something is a bad product and that is my experience with it, I will definitely let you know.

But when someone like you post about a different model of M&P 15 while the talk is about the Sport and then you use your reasoning of "the Sigma has a crappier trigger" to imply that the Sport must also have a bad trigger, I will call you out anytime, everyday.

What it ment is that my opinion based on experiance with S&W triggers (with the exception of their revolvers) is that they are excessively heavy. THATS ALL Is this really that hard to get?

NOWHERE did I say that this makes them bad products. You can "call me out" anytime. I have nothing to prove to you....

I also wasn't the one that brought up "crappy triggers" I just stated an opinion in response to it.

your reasoning of "the Sigma has a crappier trigger" to imply that the Sport must also have a bad trigger, I will call you out anytime, everyday.
Really? My "reasoning" is that that my S&W AR15 had a "crappy" trigger. (I stated so in my post)

Can you also post something that shows the M&P and Sport get different triggers? I was under the impression that they are the same parts built to the same specs.
