Pro's: My local gun shop is selling these for 639.00 right now so I am ordering one this weekend...

Con's: They sold out of the in stock rifles in an hour...lol

I bought mine at Mark's Outdoors in Birmingham last June for $599. Put a few basic upgrades on it. Probably 1000 thru it.....no problems at all. Good purchase for me. :)

All things considered, the Sporter has got me involved in the AR platform. The barrel is considered to be good. Melonite treatment, 1-8 5r barrel, crappy trigger but easily corrected.
It is what it is. Entry level, good value, and fun to shoot.
I'm having a great time with mine. I' working on some re-loads to tweak the accuracy. Will they prove out? Who knows and who cares. It's all good.
If I ever get good enough to justify a $1500-$2000 platform, let it roll.
Hobie 1 out:)

Every time I read someone post crappy trigger, I think, the person is used to aftermarket triggers or someone who can't shoot well with the rifle and therefore has to blame something. :D

My "crappy trigger" feels better than some of the issued rifles I have qualified on. I guess those rifles had "really crappy triggers."

For $650 or less, they are an excellent buy. You can't really compare an M&P Sport to a Colt.

C'mon really? you buy a rifle according to your needs. as another poster said, you won't be taking this to war, to the desert, or police duty. Its a recreational AR, and works as one. And at least it is made by a reputable American company.

Crappy triggers.

Yes I've been spoiled with great triggers on my Les Baer, Clark Ruger, Mdl. 41, Rem. 700 PSS.

However, with just a little work my Sporter is much better. Don't worry, I know I can't hit the broad side of a barn on a good day but I seldom blame the gun.:D

Pros: Menonite barrel, no forward assist, nice fit and finish, above average accuracy, reliable, warranty, price, rear MBUS included

Cons: No dust cover, crappy trigger, cheap handguard

They have a religious barrel? Menonites are kind of sorta like Amish. You meant melonite I know but it is still funny you said menonite.

The only problem with this model right now is that nobody can get them. I have the money to buy one and cannot find anybody that has one.

Don't know where you're located, but Academy Sports+Outdoors (Southern States, mostly Texas and surrounding states) almost always has these in stock.

I'm in southern colorado, Cabelas has a couple left but their price is to high plus I would have to pay shipping and the transfer fee.

Right you are! I knew what it was. But my fingers didn't listen. I fixed it. Thanks.

How is it a crappy trigger? Mine breaks like glass, no creep.

Mine too, I think this is more of the internet group think at work, somebody said it once and it then it gets repeated. My trigger is heavy, I think they are 9lbs triggers, but zero creep and it breaks like a glass rod.

I support my local gun store, he just opened up in my little town a little over a year ago, and I want to keep him open so I buy from him exclusively. If he doesn't have it in stock I have to wait. The M&P's have been flying off the shelf, so every time I checked he didn't have one, but last week I had a fist full of cash (just sold an AK) and stopped in and one was hanging on the wall so I snatched it up for $659. So far I have been thrilled with it. In fact, I am considering selling another AK to buy another M&P for my wife.

I've only pulled the trigger on two Sports. My buddy thought his trigger was pretty good. I told him mine was crap. I checked his out. They were nearly identical. Neither was overly heavy (probably around 5 lbs). But they both had a ton of creep. I suppose it's fine for a battle trigger. And you can shoot sub-MOA with a crappy trigger, but it's pretty hard to maximize accuracy with it. My 15-22 trigger feels the same way, but it shoots 1.25" groups at 100 yards: not bad for a 22lr ar. If you got one with zero creep, you were very fortunate.

Does anybody have any experience on how long these guns usually sit on backorder? I want one but dont want to wait months for one of these.

I love how on the website the other rifles have excellent photos, but the sport is suspiciously missing any detailed photos of the sport's right side, where the assist and dust cover would be...

Not knocking the rifle, I'm kind of interested actually, but its poor taste to purposely not include images of the part of the rifle that's significantly different.
