S&W M&P 9mm trigger bashing exggarated??

ok

So, for myself, as a beginner, causal shooter just for range fun, the current 2015 trigger on the M&9 9mm will NOT be a big deal?

With all of the M&P posts, we haven't put up a single picture? If course, we all know what it looks like, but here's mine.

Standard M&P 9 fullsize
- Apex DCAEK + polymer AEK trigger
- Trijicon HD night sights
- slightly undercut trigger guard(mostly just to remove the front strap texture)
- light stippling on both the back strap and front strap (really makes the gun feel fantastic - locks into the hand like the P320)

I also have a KKM barrel on order that I'm having done in gold Titanium Nitride.

It rides in a foliage green kydex 'Profile' holster from Tulster. These are some of the best I've found. I have one for my G17 and another for my G19 as well. He keeps them really small and the retention locks in perfectly with a crisp 'click' where some others slide in in with 'clunk'. Hard to explain, but I've had a bunch and these are about my favorite. Only problem is they're only available for a small handful of models.

I currently carry a M&P in .40 with the newer sear. Just for giggles, and because I've always polished up my Glock triggers, I did a "poor man's" trigger job on my M&P. Broke out the Dremel with jeweler's rouge and an Arkansas fine stone. Result? One very fine, smooth trigger. No grit, break and reset are crisp, still a little heavy, but so smooth it doesn't matter. Definitely a better than Glock trigger now, with better than Glock ergos.

Still would like to try some APEX parts, but for now I'm happy. I've always stippled my Glocks too, they always felt slick, as did my USP 40, but the vM&P, with the largest, aggresive, backstrap feels right as it is. So for now stippling isn't going to happen, but I might do the undercut. Hmmmmmmm....

Bought a Shield last week, took it to the range yesterday, put about 80 rounds through it.
I don't have the expertise of many on these boards, but I really like the stock trigger. Dare I say, I liked it better than the G43 trigger.
IMHO.

Of course the trigger bashing of the M&P is overstated.

ALL striker fired handgun triggers are some level of suck compared to the best hammer fired pistols. All that gets debated is to what degree these strikers suck relative to one another.

Bashing triggers is a time-honored tradition amongst many gunwriters and I think that people who have read those articles for years assume that they should do the same when reviewing a gun.

Some triggers are better than others, and a good trigger is easier to shoot than one that's bad, but IMO, there's a lot more fussing about triggers than is warranted by what's actually out there on the market.

Yep.

^^^This!

I fear that we're becoming a nation of trigger snobs that can't shoot well with anything but the "glass-rod" perfect trigger......or, at least, that's what we're blaming our bad shooting on.

Maybe we should all go back to shooting DA revolvers....if you can shoot a DA revolver well, you can shoot anything well.

For me, any trigger that tells me where it's gonna break, I can learn. The pre-2015 M&P didn't do that. It does now. I like the new ones...

Actually, XD's have gotten mushier, so my newer XD may get some kind of kit.

No kits that I've used from either PRP or Springer will give you a defined wall in the trigger pull. It's just the nature of the trigger design. They'll make it smooth as glass and light... but there's no wall. That's my biggest complaint about XD triggers. I would any iteration M&P trigger over an XD triger. They always had a good wall... they just had no reset.

I wouldn't go that far. My early M&P had a break that just sort of happened.

Nodule

this is all very personal. Some folks are very picky about their guns and their functions. Many are competitive shooters. So a very small quirk for one of us who is not--is a big deal to them

personally( I have a H+K VP9, Sig p320, walther ppq, glock 19, s+w M+P pro--I LOVE th e walther the most . I am a great shooter with the PPQ. I do well with the VP9 and M+P pro and glock too. I tend to shoot sigs low(all sigs period--guess it is the combat sights) .If look were my sole criteria...none of these would be in the collection. They shoot well, fit my hands well( the wifes too) and work 100% of the time

try one of each(rent or borrow, then decide) or buy one of each--LOL:D

I had an M&P45c with the DCAEK kit that I sold to buy a 1911. I am thinking about getting another M&P 45 only a full size one. I probably won't put the Apex kit in it as I intend to use it for self defense. I've heard people say that having trigger work done on a self defense gun can get you in trouble in court if you ever have to use it in SD

Own both a full size M&P 9, as well as an M&P9C. Both have decent triggers, both were mfg. late 2012 I believe. On par with my Gen 3 G19.
Friend of mine acquired a full size like mine last year, and trigger seemed a tad heavier pull, but could be because it had never been fired at the time and needed a few mags through it to smooth it out.

I agree with the above comments. When I shoot a Walther PPQ M2 against my Gen3 Glock 17 that I've been shooting many thousands of rounds with over the last 6-1/2 years, that Walther has a better trigger by all objective criteria for what makes a good trigger. But I still hit the target better with the Glock, just bracause I have more practice time in with it.
