S&W internal lock beef?

"Not only is it something else to go wrong it is an insult to my intelligence to install it in the gun. S&W can pack sand until they see fit to remove the locks."

Yup, that's how I see it too. Totally unnecessary and unwanted by me. I'll not buy another Smith if it's got "the lock."

The day I purchased my 640 before the stupid locks should have been the day I purchased two. I will not buy a Smith with a lock either. Nor will I purchase a Remington rifle with a bolt lock. They (Remington) has seen the light on that mistake. Interesting...the Remmy LE rifles never had the lock. I guess because they need more reliability than us non LE folks?

The new M&P 40 by S&W is being delivered to Law Enforcement agencies without an Internal lock.Interesting. Regards 18DAI.

S&W also sold 1100 M37's with bobbed hammers sans locks recently, as well. Supposedly either a contract overrun or built from spares.

In the little part of me that still holds out hope for the world, there's a piece that wonders if the new S&W is testing the no-lock waters.

All they have to do to make us happy is copy the Taurus design so we can replace the hammer. Hrmph.

gfen - If they're testing the waters, they're doing it with old parts and not risking the new stuff. Those 37's have the old, slightly smaller, pre-+P frame, forged parts instead of MIM and hammer-mounted firing pins. I've seen pictures and one live example and am mulling over getting one. They are new guns but manufactured from uncurrent parts. I hope you're right but don't hold out great hope.

:) Here's one:

I don't believe these are anything but an overrun that they're liquidating (at loss-leader prices). The idiot-locks are here to stay. Fortunately, there are bazillions of used pre-locks out there (and these great RSR 37-2s!).

Who cares?

I bought three S&W revolvers this year (686, 60, 629) - I could care less about the lock. I don't even notice it's there. They're excellent guns. Chances are 100,000 to I'd ever have to defend myself with one. Chances are probably 500,000 to 1 that the lock would accidentally "deploy" when I needed it.

Way to kill my dreams, guys... Geez.

A shame though, I knew they were used forged, not MIM, parts but I didn't know the frame itself was different, that's what I was pinning those hopes on.

Still, we can dream and hope. Again, if they're offering hte product to LE and other "offical" groups without the lock, perhaps there's still a tiny shred of a chance.

gfen, the Tooth Fairy is still real, right?

Once you get over the philosophical, asthetic, and safety issues there is absolutely nothing wrong with the locks.
