Rugers Website

I'm a big 1911 fan. However, I think we a great selection already. Would like to see something new from the ground up.

If it is a 1911, that's good news. More competition means better prices. And, since Ruger is into cast frames, it would likely be a cast frame 1911, making it an affordable gun.

Does anybody know if Ruger has been making cast frames for 1911s for anyone else?

There's been hints of a new single action revolver lately from credible sources. We don't know if that's tied to the countdown. Probably not unless it's really revolutionary...five-shot mega-caliber as a factory option, or eight shots of 327 on the mid-frame (SWEET!).

I think we're going to see a new DA revolver soon. Best bet would be some kind of modern re-creation of the old Security/Service/Speed size 357 sixguns, smaller or at least lighter than a GP100 and with the trigger off the LCR involved. That trigger (and it's internal lock) are going to migrate to the rest of the Ruger DA wheelgun lineup at some point. And if they keep the plastic grip frame concept, the result should be cheaper to make than either the SP101 or GP100 - I think one gun mid-size between them could replace both.

I would be very interested in a 1911 from Ruger, I have never owned a 1911 and I am planning on buying one eventually.

Might as well start with one from a good firearm company that is starting one.

Besides, I have taken a liking to Ruger craftsmenship, I don't know how to explain it but it just feels more... me.

• This new one is to be a single action revolver. That much has been clarified elsewhere.
• There is a SR-1911 being designed and developed. The latest I heard ( 3 weeks ago) was they were trying to decide what parts to make themselves and what parts to out source for. Pretty much told it WILL happen just not in time for SHOT.
• Also told the big chair at Ruger wants a new model about every 6 months or so. Talked with reps of another they're designing that will likely be a biggie for them too.

Ruger has really messed up their website. I can’t figure how to view any specifications other than the “cool” hype picture that tells me nothing useful. And I have to view that with Vista. It locks up with XP.

It looks like they hired some game programmer.

Right, but let's also remember that they've only used this "countdown thing" for really revolutionary stuff. They issued the Bisley variant NewVaq with little fanfare, and even less when they agreed to continue the 44Spl flattop as a regular production item.

So, if this is the SA we're expecting, it's going to be at least somewhat revolutionary. A five-shot mega-caliber hunting piece would qualify. OR...a completely revolutionary design. Like, say...if they used REALLY high quality metal of some sort (similar to the 454SuperRedHawk) they could do the strength of the large frames in the mid-frame size.

OR...USFA just released an eight-shot 327 on an SAA-class frame. Why couldn't Ruger do that?

It's probably going to be a new 1911 polymer, to compete with Wilson's new offering. But, I'd rather see Ruger introduce a single stack 9mm in an LCP type configuration.

Great....another company making ar-15s and 1911s, so original......

at least they'll be making 20-rounders for the mini 30.

agreed, if Ruger thinks their future lies in another 1911 pistol, I am happy to not own stock in them. Hasnt the 1911 been done VERY well by many established makers? I love the 1911, have many , but its no place for Ruger to tread.
What can they bring to that table that hasnt been presented and rejected by the market ? Poly/alloy/Kyrptonite? Please, 1911 buyers arent likely to go there, even if its says Ruger on the slide. Ruger to me means an innovative approach to design and manufacturing. recent history excepted.
Just an old fart popping off here....

Ruger making a 1911?

I hate to be critical of Ruger but...
Any time a manufacturer introduces a new product, I give them at least a year to GET IT RIGHT. Weather it is a new car style or Ruger making a 1911.

I think it will either be a 1911 or a new large frame DA revolver in .50 or around to challenge the 500 S&W.
