Ruger sp 101 barrel legnth

Forgive me if I'm hijacking the thread....

I'm having a similar problem deciding. Since belt and pocket carry have been mentioned, I want to add another carry method....ankle carry. Does the SP-101 work as an ankle gun, and does the 3" work as well as the 2" for ankle carry?

Thanks in advance.....

I have never done it*, but judging by the weight of the various 101 incarnations, that would be a no.

Think about it: strap a 1 1/2 ound weight onto one anke and try to run. It won't stay very secure, I'd bet. A heavy weight on the end of a 3 foot pendulum has considerable momentum.....

Anke carry is for featherlite guns...... unles you want to intentionally limit your mobility.

I bought on today, and chose the 3in barrel. Previously I owned the 2 1/4, but I really don't think the 2 1/4 does anything that a smaller snub wouldn't do just as well or better, and so the 3 1/16 version seemed more versatile. I'm happy with my purchase. Congrats on yours.

For a CCW gun, I prefer a 2" barrel. It is just easier to conceal and carry in my opinion. If you want a range gun, you might as well buy a 4" or 6" barrel gun. Keep in mind that most self defense situations occur at less than 7 yards. I don't believe that an extra length of barrel will make any difference.
