Ruger sp 101 barrel legnth

I should clarify, the reason the 3" was less concealable was because I carry it on the hip, OWB. The barrel just sticks out on some of my shorter T-shirts. Not a huge deal, but a little.

I did not notice a difference in recoil between the two, myself. The Hogue monogrip hides a lot of 357 recoil, but is less concealable than other options.

I've been thinking about this all day and still can't decide. At least I'm getting one, right? Either way these are pretty good guns and I can't wait. really appreciate everyones input, keep posting comments as it will come down to the wire and I'm loving the great pics! Thanks alot!!

While I like the 101......

The main difference is pocket carry or not.

And unless you for some reason want a 1 1/2 pound(!) pocket gun.... the 101 isn't well suited for pocket carry...... there are better options for pocket carry.

Hey, some folks like a brick in their pocket!

What? Some people juggle geese!

I don't think it's that bad, but I do admit I prefer my 638 Airweight, besides being lighter and smaller, it has a snag free shrouded hammer, I just can't shoot .357 with it like the SP101 3". But Buffalo bore makes a mean 158g for short barrels in +P. That's if I felt my GDHP 135g +Ps wasn't enough.

This sucks, luck of the draw I guessed. I decided to go in and switch out for the three inched and put bogus grips on it. I called from work and they had two in stock, so three hours later I show up and they sold out! If I get my money back it'll cost me twenty five bucks. Or stick with the two incher? I feel the two incher is put together tight..but in the back of my mind I'm gonna be thinking I wish it was the three incher. What a bummer, sorry guys all this for luck of the draw.

You're way over thinking your purchase. If you're so concerned about velocity, get a 44 magnum. Now, relax and enjoy your SP101!

Yes..thanks Laker. But I figure get a pocket holster and a IWB holster for the two inch and then get a shoulder rig, hogue grips for a three incher! (And glove box) I mean everytime I get a new gun I say I'm done, this is all I need..not so.

Hey, some folks like 5 shot holster guns and prefer their toast burnt. Go figure.

I like my 101 .... but do wish it was a .327, for the extra hole in the cylinder.

As for burnt toast, a bit of scraping with a butter knife will take that black right off ......

I'm sorry you didn't get what you want but I believe this was a blessing in disguise.

Get a quality pocket holster like a Kramer.
A soft Uncle Mike's isn't going to cut it for this gun.

I like the big dot setup one gent has pictured.
How's that working out?

I purchased a 3" sp-101 in Dec 2010 and in Jan. 2012 a .38 LCR I like both but the LCR is more suitable for me to carry. The 3" SP-101 will make a great field gun with some hot 357mags. I'm still floundering around for a good in the waistband holster for the LCR. I don't think there is any best answer here its all about your own preference.

I never did find a good IWB holster for my 101..... I came to the conclusion that revolvers are round and because of this, do not ride under a belt very well...... that and the radically different manual of arms from the gun I Carry and shoot best (Springfield EMP) caused me to relegate the 101 to range toy/pin gun/hunting belt use. My dad has it for a house gun until he gets up the scratch to get his own revolver.

jimbob86..Thank you! I'm gonna see if the gun store can get me that new four incher with adjustable rear sights and fiber optic front sight. That thing is awesome. Wish it came in three inch barrel but owell more velocity!
