Love Security Sixes

I really like this thread and thought I would contribute. It's great seeing all of your Security Sixes. Very nice!
Here's mine. Made in 1974, I think.

Skidder, the serial number is 150-85xxx. I guess it is a 74.

Thanks for the link. The guy I bought it from said it was a 74.

New Model Ruger Single 6 value

I have a New Model Ruger Single 6 with a 9 1/2 " barrel, blue, excellent but only the magnum barrel.

manufactured in 1981

any idea what they are worth?

The(150 series)2.75" Security-Six(Model RDA32)like yours is a scarce gun. I had to hunt for years before I found this identical revolver from the widow of a deceased Ruger collector, in NIB condition. This one is from early 1973 production with serial number 150-427xx and is pictured below:

That was the first one I saw for sale, for trade only actually. Needless to say I jumped on it. I was lucky enough to have what he was looking for.

Yours looks great too BTW.

1)You did great in picking up your 2.75" first model Security-Six-these are the most collectible and are wonderful revolvers to boot!

2)When you consider that at the end of Ruger six series revolver production in 1988 more than 1.5 million(Security/Service/Speed-Sixes)were produced. However, only about 125,000(150 s/n prefix)old frame "Sixes" had been produced out of that total!:)

Gotta love the security six. I have one of the early versions with the fixed sights. Given to me by my grandma. Fine weapon it be

Here's mine.
It's a Security Six w/ fixed sights shipped on November 19th 1973 according to Ruger. They even have it as a Police Service Six with the box marked as a SDA-34 but the gun is marked Security Six.

TJx:

1)You have a real nice example there of an early SDA-34 Security-Six! Those are not easy to find!:)

2)I have been trying to collect these early model Security/Service/Speed-Six revolvers. I have the following NIB Security-Sixes-the first one is an 4" SDA-34 like yours (s/n 150-476xx) and the second one is an 2.75" SDA-32(s/n 150-491xx):

My first Ruger revolver .357 purchased from my next door neighbor two weeks ago and he said it had never been fired before. Had the original box and papers. He had bought two of these exactly the same in 1981, and he had only shot one of them. This is a stout little revolver compared to my Smiths.
I've already put 150+ rounds through it. What good luck for me !

That is a wonderful acquisition! The snubbie Security-Six is a very popular revolver! Congratulations!:)

smith627-- Very nice. I have 3 over 30 years old and the lockup is amazing. When I browse the new guns and check their lockup it makes you think of how much more detail and quality went into the old Six line. Compared to the new revolvers there is quite a contrast

Smith627, I traded into one just like it this week. Had an SR9, but I'm a revolver man, and it just didn't fit me. Mine came with rubber target type grips with Ruger medallions in them. I didn't realize Ruger equipped their guns with these from the factory. I just ordered a set of wood target style grips from Ruger's website for sixteen bucks SHIPPED! I really wish I could find some nice service grips to fit mine, along with a Tyler T grip.

Great picture thread here.

Internet pix have been some of my best inspiration for many purchases.
This is a good thread for those that may be considering buying a Security-Six in any of its many forms.

Blue. 6-shots. Sights. I like it. Cold Steel SRK shown with it.
