Ruger Pistols

While the ruger is a fine pistol (I have a MkII), it is severely limited. One of the guys at work carries a P90 .45 and loves it, but the thing doesn't compare to my 1991 or 1911.

The biggest drawback with the P series is that you can't do anything with it. My buddy wants to tighten up the fit of his duty gun, but I can't figure out how he could. To tighten up the muzzle/slide fit, insuring a tight lock, he'd have to weld up the slide and re cut it. Heck, youda thought Ruger would have at least used a replaceable O-ring like other makers.

Where do you get a replacement recoil guide rod? What about quality springs?

Bottom line: I like the gun as an entry-level weapon for folks that need something but can't afford much. It is a quality shooter capable of firing many rounds without a hiccup, but it has no style, elegance or upgrade ability. I'll take a 1911 over the Ruger any day.

My Ruger P94 .40cal is the BEST firearm I have ever owned! never an FTE or FTF...accurate as can be...I have owned many handguns in my life...sold or traded most of them to get something else...but my P94 will always be my home defense handgun choice,
Tony.

Fine guns, but they're big. Unfortunately when you purchase one you also buy their politics. There's just no pride in ownership with all that baggage. I no longer give them a second glance.

Well, I did it again!!!

I took my P95 to the range Saturday.
15 rounds, 15 yards, 1 quarter size hole!!!:p
This gun, by far is my most accurate pistol. The only reason I don't carry it, is because it is to durn big!!! I showed the target to the counter guy and got the response "A Ruger did that????" I just smiled...

I've owned two Ruger pistols in the past and I miss both of them.

Had a blued Ruger MKII. It was the target version with the bull barrel and adjustable sights. The gun shot like crazy and was also very good looking as it also had the fancy, Ruger rosewood grips with it. Sold it 'cause I needed the money at the time. Now I can't buy another one (at least not new) 'cause the MKII's don't meet the police state's "safety criteria" for firearms (MA).

I also had a P90. It was a chunky beast, but was it was also fairly accurate, completely reliable, and sledge hammer tough. The DA/SA trigger wasn't bad either. I sold it in order to get enough money to buy an AMT Hardballer. I'm a big 1911 enthusiast and wanted a stainless 1911 type pistol to add to my collection of .45's. This was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made in my life as the AMT was complete garbage. I really wish I still had that P90 today. It was a great shooter and an excellent house gun.

I never liked the looks of the Ruger autos. I never gave serious thought to ever buying one. I got my P89 in payment of a debt. I initially couldn't shoot it well but since I didn't own another 9mm at the time, I kept shooting it. Since that time I have purchased a few more 9mms, actually probably at least a half dozen. I shot them all to some extent and when it was all said and done, I decided that I liked the Ruger the best. Something funny about my P89, I almost never go to the safe with the intention of getting out the P89, but for one reason or another, I end up with it on my belt. For example, I decided on the spur of the moment this weekend to shoot my first IDPA match. I wanted to shoot it with a revolver, but I don't own any speedloaders. So, I looked around the safe and I didn't really have an appropriate holster for anything else. I spend a lot of time "in the field" with my handguns and I really like full flap holsters to protect my guns. I do own a Final Option for the 1911s that I used to use in IPSC but I don't think a competition holster is legal for IDPA. Anyway, I spied the P89. When I first heard about Fobus holsters, I decided to try one. I didn't own a belt holster for my P89 so I bought a fobus and a mag pouch for it. This seemed to be the only thing that fit the bill, so once again the P89 came out of the safe as an also ran. And, once again it performed flawlessly. I was pretty pleased with my scores and will go back, probably with the P89. The same thing has happened any number of times when hunting or out driving off road. I opened the safe for a belt gun and for one reason or another came down to the P89. As a result, I have taken more game with that handgun than probably all the others combined. It doesn't catch my eye when standing in front of the safe but when I start thinking about it, I end up grabbing the P89 more often than not.
