While the ruger is a fine pistol (I have a MkII), it is severely limited. One of the guys at work carries a P90 .45 and loves it, but the thing doesn't compare to my 1991 or 1911.
The biggest drawback with the P series is that you can't do anything with it. My buddy wants to tighten up the fit of his duty gun, but I can't figure out how he could. To tighten up the muzzle/slide fit, insuring a tight lock, he'd have to weld up the slide and re cut it. Heck, youda thought Ruger would have at least used a replaceable O-ring like other makers.
Where do you get a replacement recoil guide rod? What about quality springs?
Bottom line: I like the gun as an entry-level weapon for folks that need something but can't afford much. It is a quality shooter capable of firing many rounds without a hiccup, but it has no style, elegance or upgrade ability. I'll take a 1911 over the Ruger any day.
