Ruger Bearcat

Well I think i'm convinced. I guess i'm going to be picking one up in the near future. Now my lgs has one for $450.00 is is about 15 minates for my house. I have located one about 100 miles away that is the old model for $400. with fuel cost I would have the same in both, just more travel time. ?

I have an old model that shoots pretty high. If I use hyper velocity ammo it shoots close to dead on since the bullet is out of the barrel before the front rises from recoil.

For you super bearcat owners, you can shoot 22 WRF as well. Good to know in these ammo constrained times since it's an oddball that might be on the shelf. It's actually a good hunting load for any 22 magnum when you dont want to ruin meat.

I had an old 3 screw and I thought it was pretty accurate. Not every shot hit the bullseye but what do you expect from a pistol with a 5.5 inch barrel

I have one from the mid 80s. It has a permanent home in my flyfishing vest. It is plenty accurate for what I need..I've taken a few squirrels and grouse for the camp pot and even a badger and a beaver with it. You need to find a flavor of ammo that they like. They can be very finicky. Mine prefers mini mags. Stingers and Remington Thunderbolts are horrid through it.

I have the shopkeeper and so far it sucks. Extraction is impossible with fingers. I have to pull the cylinder and punch them out with the basepin. Not cool, but it is pretty.
I'm sure Ruger would be willing to fix it for you at their cost- just give them a call. If you are a DIY guy you can take a bore mop- coat it with Flitz and put it in a drill chuck to polish out each cylinder hole as well.

FWIW, the hard/no extraction problem with my BearCat disappeared when I changed ammo brands.

jes' sayin'.................................

The Shopkeepers are made only for resale through Lipsey's distributers and you will find them on Gunbroker like I did mine.

I got lucky I think, relatively speaking, and cought one listed with a buynow price of $530 with free shipping and no extra CC fee. My FFL charged me another $30 so I got it for a grand total of $560.00 and I can't wait to get it to the range.

But there in lies the problem, no .22LR available in this area. I have a 333 box of Winchester I think it is, but I don't want to make a first trip to the range with only one type of ammo just in case it doesn't like what I have.

Just got my shopkeeper; extraction of spent brass is nearly impossible with most brands of ammo (Agulia maximums seemed easier than others). Does seem to be improving as I shoot her. Live rounds have to be shoved in with finger pressure.

Ive heard other members here and on the ruger forums mentioning shopkeeper extraction problems.
Are the cylinders are this first batch a little out of spec on the tight side?
Or is it the shortened eject rod?
Something else?

My BearCat took on a whole 'nother personality, when I got it a new pair of shoes.

This is the 5th BC I've owned, over the years, including a SBC - and the first one that shot to the sights for me, so I'm keeping it.

As I mentioned above, I had chambering & extraction difficulty also, which dissapointed me - until I thought to try a different brand ammo, which was a miracle cure.

I have been looking for an older Bearcat with the brass trigger guard for a decent price but they are hard to find

I sure wish that the factory would offer Bearcats with adjustable sights. I would definitely buy one.

Call Alan Harton of Single Action Service 713-907-6031

He does all kinds of work on Bearcats including adding adjustable sights.

The Bearcat is one of the few revolvers that I have sold/traded. I traded one for a SingleSix .22lr/.22mag convertible. At least I can hit something with the SingleSix.

This Baercat

became this Single Six. I just wish .22mag was cheaper. I like how it shoots.

For drools & giggles, here's some BearCat eye candy.

A couple Alan Harton did, in .32 H&R, for Boge Quinn on New Model Super BearCat frames.

No wonder I'm partial to stags on BearCats.....................

OK, everybody. I've got a chance to buy one.

Which is the better deal?

A new blue Bearcat for $ 499.00

or a like-new Stainless Bearcat for $ 395.00?

Best,

Will

Both will last several life-times.... Comes down to personal preference really. I like blued, and probably would buy the blued if it were me even if costs a bit more.... Just like I recently picked up a blued New Vaquero which cost $30 more than the bright SS New Vaquero next to it....

My wife sure likes 'her' Bearcat. Fits her hands ... and as she says... it's 'cute'/'adorable' :D . Oh, and she can hit the cans and steel targets with it too.... Win win...
