Ruger american 30-06

Ordered mine in January and still have not received it. Since I ordered from the iPad, I wondered if there was a form issue. Not something I necessarily need, but for free, why not?
 
the cheek piece was not made in America, I believe was the issue... and they couldn't call it 100 percent American made if that was in the box. :o
 
recoil compared to wood stocks?

Just spotted this thread, and also just purchased a Ruger American SPRG today for my daughter (17), who has shot my old wood stock 30.06 with no problem (down her deer with it last fall), but we are wondering how much difference there might be in recoil due to the lighter stock.
I do have a shoulder gel pad she can use if needed. Looking forward to going out in the field with it, hopefully tomorrow...but might not be until next week.
We plane to shoot 165 grain Hornedy's in it.

We had a fellow shooting a Ruger American .243 today in our long range practice shoot... he successfully engaged the plates at 520, 612, 760, 900... and 1030 yards. He as shooting Berger's 95 grain VLD and a little over 41 grains of 4350 in Federal brass. It shot great... Redfield Revolution scope and it dialed the 32 MOA needed for 1030 yards just fine.

These really are wonderful little rifles... :)

I Want One!

I'm looki to pick one up soon and throw a decent $200 range scope on it, I'm waiting for the price to go down from $400 to $300 at my LGS first.
 
I'm seriously interested after reading this and other threads about the RA - can anyone speak to the rifle's durability in field use?
 
It has not been manufactured long enough to be able to fairly discuss durability. Everything on it, except the way the action beds to the stock, is old technology that has been proven over and over by other makers.
 
I have been looking into possible getting one of these in 30-06 and reading this thread has confirmed it. Thanks for the info.
