Return of the derringer?

^ Big difference between firing .45 or 357 magnum versus .38 spl.

I don't plan on getting the DT .45. For me personally that's a lot of money to spend on a gun that I have some reason to believe will be unmanageable for me.

But I have seen people fire the Rohrbaugh R9, I think I'd be able to fire it and the Heizer DoubleTap.

Michael Bane gave the Heizer a really favorable review at SHOT show.

He discusses some of the design problems and short comings of typical derringers and how the Heizer DoubleTap overcomes alot of those problems with a narrow profile and a relatively smooth trigger - especially compared to other derringers.

I cant see giving that kind of money for a 2 shot pistol, but I do like it. I've always wanted a side by side .45/.410. Found one for $200, but I found out that particular one had a problem coming apart when shot. Then I later found one for $125, but didn't have the money. I'd really like to try one those derringers with the top barrel 45/70 and the bottom being 45 colt. I like guns that hurt I guess.

This may have been pointed out or it may be irrelevant, but I need to know. The little intro vid' says that the barrel can be made available ported to reduce muzzle-flip.

However, both the name and the little animation of the trigger system suggests to me, at least, that the trigger fires both bullets simultaneously. If this is the case, what is the point in porting the barrel...

and secondly.... why oh why did they have to call it a "tactical" pocket pistol?

Otherswise, it is sort of cool, but I'd still prefer an LC9, personally...

Kind of reminds me of the WW2 liberator pistol. I sure would like to see a You tube video of someone shooting this in 45acp! Ouch.

The video does seem to show that the hammer would fire both rounds. I had the same question too - about how one and then the other round is fired.

I can only tell you that it definately does not fire both rounds at the same time because if it did it would be an NFA weapon - classified as a machine gun

Machine guns—this includes any firearm which can fire more than 1 cartridge per trigger pull.

^^^ Drawing some really far gone conclusions there. Maybe some of us don't want to be associated with that sort of diatribe? What's the saying around here, "think twice post once"?

Any updates on the Heizer DT? This thing has been to 2 SHOT Shows now and there still isn't a single video of it being fired...

I saw it in January at SHOT 2012, however the one they were passing around was not a fully working model. It appeared to be a partially complete mockup with some of the features of the final product, but lacking a drop safety, for example.

It didn't appear to me that they had a functional gun yet. The trigger was good, but since the gun I handled wasn't completely finished in terms of the internal design, it's not possible to say if that will be true of the final product.

I don't recall a delivery date being stated.

It was very thin and very light. My impression was that firing it would be unpleasant.

I have a Davis 22mag, over 20 years old, only fired twice, once to check accuracy at 10 yds, very accurate and 22mag went through the cedar fence and through the galvanized fencepost behind it.The second occasion was a warning shot at a charging knife wielding moron.Wasn't as accurate as I thought, aimed 6" above his head, took off a piece of his ear. Only a little piece.I had a Firestar 45acp as my primary but my hand was holding the derringer in my pocket. He got sober very quick, and turned into a blubbering idiot begging for his life.

I was on a revolver kick for a few years, then 1911s, then XDs, now Derringers. I got a .38 Spec Cobra to make up a difference in a trade. Swapped that for a Davis .22mag. In the market now for a Bond 45LC/410.

I ATV in the desert some and we need to get off and stretch. Do a little walk while geocaching, etc. For me a Deringer with snake loads makes sense. If they raise the bounty on coyotes I'll need to pack along the 243 as well...

A 800 dollar Derringer though? I'll stick with my pawnshop deals at WAY less than half that thank you.

I examined a Cimeron the other day at the LGS. Lockup is not very tight. I could wiggle the barrel left and right nearly 1/8 inch. Tightenning the screw would fix that, but its another thing to keep track of when you're shooting.

My only real interest in this gun is that its supposed to be available titanium. This would be my last resort gun when truly roughing it in an environment that I dont want to put a pricier pistol through.

Canoeing or some watersport, not that my other guns couldnt take it but its just not necessary..

I don't remember the MSRP but I'm pretty sure they are pricey. I doubt we will ever see these outside of ad's in the gun mags. Not having a working gun at shot is pretty lame and looks bad to me.
