Return of the derringer?

The return? But they never went away!

The return of derringers? Whoever said derringers went out of style? The only thing I don't like about em is trying to find 30 cal rimfire HPs for SD. I wish Winchester would make rangers SXTs in 30 rimfire. Its also tough to carry extra rounds for single shot guns, so sometimes I pack 2 derringers, quicker reload that way. Other than those issues, carrying a derringer is where its at!

Can anyone tell me how it fires one round and then the other? The firing mechanism isn't clear (to me at least).

I can't see how it fires one round and then the other and it doesn't just fire both rounds at the same time...

"I can't see how it fires one round and then the other and it doesn't just fire both rounds at the same time..."

I second that...question! Two .45ACP rounds touched off at the same time in a sub-14 oz. gun could kill on both ends of the gun.

why so much $$

Well anything made of Titanium is going to be expensive because Titanium is hard to work with vs steel and aluminum, so that takes care of the titanium model. Porting costs money as well.

As for the $500 MSRP price of the non-ported aluminum model, the Bond Arms Texas Defender has a MSRP of $405. I'd chalk up the higher price to the need to recoup R&D costs, which the bond has recovered, as well as the higher QC needed as there is less of a safety margin with the smaller/lighter design.

I see it has a front sight, but I don't see where there is a grove in the top of the frame or any rear sights.

I know that "Derringers" are called belly guns, but I'm also thinking that this thing is about the same size as a Rohrbaugh R9 - which has front & rear sights.

How do you aim a pistol that only has a front sight?

At close range, that's all you need....just put the front sight at 6-o'clock on the target....Jeff Cooper taught that for years.....

Reliability, manufacture, safety... ? If positive, i want one!

The cost of this firearm is high because there are so few in circulation.
It is a specialty item.
Usually, derringers are expensive.. for example, American Derringer makes some of the finest, safest derringers, and yes, the customers pay the price for the reliability, manufacture, and safety.

CONSIDERATIONS:

1- RELIABILITY- the design seems simple enough, so if it goes BANG every time, it is worth it as a self defense firearm

2- MANUFACTURE- if the gun needs repair, does the company honor a warranty? Are there enough parts so that if it needs replacements, will you be able to get them?

3- SAFETY- Do the pins rest on the rounds? If it is dropped, does it fire? That is always a derringer consideration (NAA and American Derringer have taken careful mechanical considerations with respect to safety)

4- IF the companY AND FIREARM ARE DEPENDABLE, then the gun is worth the money to a buyer who needs a reliable BUG or even primary SD piece...

I just may get one if reviews are good. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!!!

The other cool thing about this is you can get whatever caliber, and you can always just buy the different caliber barrels in the future.

Derringers

Mine goes everywhere I do no matter what the weather or dress. .38Spl +P for carry duty and standard .38spl for practice. I just think it's fun to shoot and it carries like a cell phone. Many complain about triggers and this is a legitimate gripe... i touched mine up so it's around 3.5lbs.

The derringer concept is a very valid one to me but some of the calibers manufacturers have come up with in the modern days are truly astonishing.

I remember seeing one made in 45/70 caliber.

Now there's a gun you need to be a real man to shoot.

You could miss the bad guy and burn him immobile with the powder flash after your palm exploded from the recoil. :D

Love the [HD] pattern in the grip area.

This had to have been built for the cool factor, with stimulus money or lottery winnings.
