Removal of S&W integral lock

Brian Busch,

This thread had gotten out of hand. I understood what you asked. I didn't know how to remove it, but I felt I had a suggestion to permantly disable it.

Then I watched as other posters twisted or ignored your question into anything but what it was.

Now they are personally flaming you because you became frustrated at their attempts to politisize and demean your question. And are now accusing you of "being in a foul frame of mind".

I am setting myself up for a flame here, but this exact same thing has happend to me. And with the treatment you have recieved at the keyboard of some of the other members here, I would be irritated too.

Prior to seeing the above photo I did't know what the internal parts of this safety looked like. Now I do, and I can't see one thing wrong with removing the stupid thing. Revolvers are full of holes anyway, and the tiny additional area that would be open wouldn't hurt anything. (I still think filling it with locktite would work easier.)

So to those people who simply refuse to, or can't answer a question, but yet insist on joining a thread and causing trouble, I say: Shame on YOU!!
You guys have caused a lot of irritation for a member who simply wanted an anwser to a question. Nothing more, nothing less.
When you can't anwer a question, just move on to a thread you can contribute to.

I apologize to those who were legitmatly trying to help, but I had to speak my mind about this thread.

I am amazed

Dear Sir

I certaintly am amazed at the great response to this thread there are only two (one of which is mine flames in this whole thing).

I think Mr. Busch should be giving thanks for all of the people who have gone the extra mile to explain and really try to helpfull.

I would think that with the time and effort devoted to this we all now know how the safety works.

I however feel that Smith and Wesson has done a good thing from a marketing as well as a safety viewpoint. I notice that HK has a lock on their firearms If one wishes not to have a lock then purchase a prelock model or get another type ie Colt Ruger there are all types out there I dont feel anyone is put upon on by the Smith lock.

I am also aware that Mr. Busch ask a certain question..is this the type of forum wherein ever thing responded must be exactly like he wishes it to be? what a deal is this.

This is free stuff and if some of it is enableing great but it is free and not being paid for. I say be darn greatfull that these great folks have had the time and knowledge to share with you.

As far as the tread having gone on long enought I do agree, but not because anyone has been subjected to abuse.

And it earned me a message from Mr. busch saying that I am now on his ignore list...oh well, that's one less christmas card I have to write....happy holiday everyone....

"I conclude, therefore, that none of the lock parts are essential to the functioning of the revolver and could thus probably be removed without any ill effect. "

Wrong. It would leave a groove about .030" wide and about .5" long next to the hammer on top of the frame where garbage will accumulate.

"glh, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO RECONSIDER CARRYING INTO MEXICO. It's a 100% absolute sure ticket to Mexican prison!"

Amen. Some Navy SP (shore patrol) traveling through that backhole of civilization were thrown in jail because they had their M9's in the trunks of their cars unloaded (they were required to carry them at all times). The Navy had to do some fancy footwork to get them out. It's unfortinate that a large SKIL saw can't be run across our southern border and have that armpit of the universe pushed out to sea.

Well, I've almost got time for this....NOT.

If this thread continues downhill, there WILL be consequences. Both sides to your respective corners. Take ten deep breaths. Then come back out and tell us what is worth fighting over here?

Thanks much-
Rich

I've thought about removing it as well, but the hole would just make me ill. I could get it welded up and refinished, but that's alot of effort. As I understand it, you just gotta yank out the lock parts and call it good.
I have a 340 (without flag, BTW), and if the lock in that beast doesn't malf, I doubt it will in any other. I also just aquired a 29 with the lock, so we'll see how that works. FWIW, the lock is almost invisible on the blued gun!

Thanks to all that answered my post with the information I needed. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.

I've decided TFL is not the forum I need to use in the future.

Again, thanks and goodbye to those I enjoyed conversing with-
Brian Busch

Brian,

Sorry to see you leave.

It's not TFL, it's the way of the world.

TFL is a decent sampling of our society. Some good some bad.
We are a microcosm of society, a small world of our own. With as many members as we have, there are bound to be vast differences of opinion on some issues.

Hang around, there's too many good guys on here.

I've had my share of broohaha's with a few guys, but in the end, it's nothing personal, it's just heat of the moment stuff.

TFL is too good of a resource.
