I have a good number of pre 64's, which are too darn expensive now days.

Remington 700's?, I have just one left.

I like the M70, smooth, slick, the Classics and pre 64's have the better trigger, I prefer the three position safety, and I prefer the claw extractor.

If you think maximum loads are for sissies, and thus are always on the verge of blowing your rifle up, the M700 offers really excellent breeching and shooter protection.

If you don't plan to blow yourself up, I would go with the M70.

Model 70..............and if I did HAVE to buy a 700 I'd modify it with a Model 70 safety, like the one I have on my only 700.

The new FN M70 is just a first class rifle.

Here is a Remington 700 with Model 70 safety.

Neither.

You can do much better with something from Savage with an accutrigger or a Howa 1500.

Much better quality at a lower cost.

Not even a question!
Winchester all the way.

Better extractor, better trigger, better bolt assembly, better safety, just as good a barrel and just as good looking.
There days, there is not even a comparison between the 2.
As a custom gunsmith and an avid shooter and hunter, I say M-70 without any hesitation at all.

I personally prefer Winchester and for pistols S&W but good arguments can be made for Remington and Colt, because its a close one in almost all ways. I think its largely personal and more or less not worth discussing. Its Coke or Pepsi but I will slam pepsi and always enjoy a coke, lol.

am glad to hear all the good reviews of the model 70. I have always ben a winchester guy. I did have a Rem 700. PSS that had a lot of extra work. So I think I will get a Winchester. I'll next have to decide wood stock or synthetic.

I think have chosen wisely in selecting the Winchester M70. Now, on the topic of whether to get synthetic or wood...I'd choose wood. ;)

I would choose the Winchester Model 70, I think its a better and safer Rifle.

OOPS I had to edit this I didnt know that you had already chosen, I saw some Winchester Model 70s that had real dark walnut stocks with stainless, they were awesome looking.
Congratulations on making your choice, I am glad to see the original Mauser style bolt actions making a come back.

Scratch that stock, you going to cry! :(

What a beautiful piece of wood!

I want one, where do I get it?

Own 70, 700, 77, and Savage 16. The Savage is the first rifle I've ever owned that had a 2.5# trigger, and shot under an inch OOB!
