reloadable .22win mag

I'm surprised no one mentioned .222 Rem with cast bullets. Absolutely wonderful combination of economical (cast your own, with or without gas checks) and accurate (just gotta fiddle with it a little to get the right load).

Seems this cartridge gets over looked a lot these days.

Perspective Fellas!

.22 Mag is, generically, roughly twice as powerful as .22 LR. It uses real, jacketed, bullets not just lead or copper-washed lead heads.

Most recent purchases included:
-Winchester FMJ at $0.182/rnd OTD.
-Armscor FMJ at $0.140/rnd delivered.
-Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics JSP and JHP at $0.151/rnd delivered.
-Armscor JSP at $0.129/rnd delivered paid over four monthly installments

So, simply, think of it three-times as much as decent .22 LR and one-half to one-third the price of .223.

I didn't see anything in your posts about a 60 Gr. bullet . You can't get those in a .22 Mag , or the Hornet for that matter . I thought we were comparing apples to apples , not melons !

I like everything about guns. I like buying them, tinkering with them, shooting them, & loading ammo for them. I like searching for specific ones in calibers I don't yet have & enjoy adding those to the pile. However, I can't wrap my feeble mind around the 22 mag. I have almost purchased one on three different occasions but just can't do it. My brother in law has one that he absolutely loves but he doesn't reload for any of his rifles. I bought him some ammo for his 22 mag for Christmas & about had a stroke over the price. $0.27/round. For that kind of money, why not shoot the 223? More range, more power, faster mv, truckloads of bullet options.

I suppose the .22Mag makes sense if you don't reload and you don't want the power and noise of a .223.
The .22Hornet is probably as close as it comes to a reloadable .22Magnum.

Loading a centerfire .22 down to .22 LR velocities makes no sense to me. Just shoot a .22 if you want the power of a .22, the ammo is cheap.

If I could get a good quality bolt action 5.7X28 MM rifle with 1-14 inch rifleing Id have one. I would try 35 and 40 Gr bullets in it. The bullet ft/sec would be more than the 22 WMR bullets and a bit less than the 22 Hornet. I have a hornet rifle and dont like the round and since getting a 221 Fireball dont use it.

In order to understand what i want you have to put yourself in my postition, I love the .22 win mag, I barely use my .22lr and my 7,62x39 (i used it for medium range shooting with my cz527) anymore since i have it. It has the perfect balance between power, noise and range for me.
But its not reloadable! And Im the kind of guy who spends weeks to create the perfect load and its a pleasure to do that. I could get so much more from the .22win mag if i could reload it!
Its realy a pain that the .22ccm isnt around anymore!

I`m gonna give the .22Hornet a try.
