Red Bull Ate My LCP

Call Ruger up and tell them the truth behind the bluing loss. Even if it's your fault, they might reblue it for free.....IF you don't play games with them.

+1. It's certainly worth a call to Ruger to see if they can help you out.

I guess I'm not surprised that Red Bull took the finish off, but I am surprised that Red Bull took the finish off that quick.

Contacting Ruger is a good suggestion.
I didn't do that though.
Bought some Birchwood Casey Liquid Blue.
The blueing isn't good as new, but it is close enough for me.
Never blued anything in my life - using it to touch up some nicks on my other firearms. Very easy to use.
The plastic wasn't effected, just the blueing.

The Coke thing is BS

Really???

I've got a 1911 Springer that I bought dirt cheap from a fellow worker. He had just bought the gun and had it on the floorboard of his truck. The blue plastic case was left open and his wife accidently spilled some coke into case. It was dark when he got home so he closed the case and took gun inside not knowing of the coke.
The next night when he opened the case, the parkerized finish had turned black everywhere the coke was at. I ended up buying the Springer for next to nothing. It won't clean off so I may experiment and paint coke on some of the rest of it. Maybe a camo effect. :)

Also, one of the best things to use to clean battery corrosion from a battery is coke.

Nah... it's not acidic

I looked into Red Bull back when I was an athletic trainer... After reading up on it I've never drank one. They are not good for you in any way shape or form.

I've used soft drinks as cheap rust remover on metal parts. It works well. Looks like Red Bull has a little more ooomph to it. Hell I'd drop the rest of it in a can to remove the bluing completely. Give it a quick, light blast in a blast cabinet, degrease it and spritz it with flat black or gunblue Duracoat.

my first house had been vandalised before I bought it, roof tar poured in the toilet, poured a two liter of Coke in it and left it sit a week and I had a new looking toilet.

jackblack, I've got a Ruger Blackhawk 45ACP cylinder at home that sat in spilled Coke for ' what she told me' was about a day. Bare spots on the cylinder, bluing gone. That is NO BS. Try it with one of your's. See ya' Bill

This thread makes me want to give up soda...

Guess that makes me kind of glad I have a SS slide and a polymer frame.
Although I'm sure there is some household liquid that could destroy that easily as well.

In school we would put chicken bones in coke for a few days then tie them in knots.....

Needless to say I don't drink soda, and neither do my kids unless its a special occasion.

Phosphoric acid, which is in Coke, is the active ingredient in rust and blue removers, and in grout cleaner. Any of the acids present in soft drinks will cause acid erosion of teeth. any of the will damage bluing and any of them will cause rust.

Don't put too much faith in Snopes. It's not the be all end all of truth. They've been wrong about plenty of things. The owners are also flaming socialist liberals.

Mythbusters put a piece of steak in Coke either overnight or for 24 hours. It was unrecognizable when they removed it. It looked like it had been rotting for a good while. Must be why it's so great as a marinade. It'll tenderize the toughest cut of meat.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS.

I have friends that drink this stuff that own guns.

Only one thing left to do with that LCP.

You'll probably have to send it back to Ruger to fix that finish.

That's awful.
