recommend pistol in 45 acp

It depends on the purpose you have in mind, and the type of action you prefer.

Compact seems to imply concealed carry. The choice of actions includes SA only, DA only or SA/DA. Hammer fired or striker fired. The function I prefer is DA/SA, you might like something else.

Full size seems to imply home defense or range use. Again the choice of actions and hammer vs striker applies. Again I like SA/DA, but it's a personal preference.

So for concealed carry I'd recommend a polymer frame SA/DA, like a Sig or CZ. For full size I like an alloy or steel frame Sig, or even a SA Colt Gold Cup for target.

Fnx tactical, or Springfield, but like NICK CS stated, when anyone says 45 to me it is synonymous with 1911 and vice versa, or Colt 45 malt liquor for the older folks.

If you decide you like 1911s and your max is $700, I recommend a ruger sr1911, a Springfield mil-spec or uses loaded model/range officer, a used Colt of any kind.

Walther PPQ45 is probably the nicest polymer option below $700. Comfy slim grip, amazing trigger, German quality, accurate Walther barrel

A 1911, a 1911 and maybe a 1911...:D. Yes, I am a bit of a gun snob and for me .45acp is synonymous with a 1911.

...or Colt 45 malt liquor for the older folks.

The "older folks" know that Colt 45 Malt Liquor was named after #45, Jerry Hill, on the Baltimore Colts football team...and not named for anything associated with 1911's or the 45 ACP.

I have a G21 with grip reduction done by Robar. Best .45 shooting gun I have shot yet.

Also there are plenty of them at or below 700, but not USA made. You've done some research make your choice and share your thoughts about it, please. And pics I need to figure out how to post em. Seems more clear when a pic is posted.

Who? I'm older and I never heard of this person.

Anyway, contrary to a previous post, a Philippine 1911 is not a bad choice for an entry level, everyday shooter .45. You can pick one up for considerably less than $700.00. However, if you don't want an "entry level" 1911 type gun, spend a few dollars more and get a Colt.

An EAA Witness is also not a bad choice for a .45, and they are somewhat "softer shooting" than a 1911. Also less than $700.00.

There are a lot of excellent .45 ACP pistols on the market. Were I to buy a .45 ACP, I'd give the S&W 1911 a very long look. From what I've learned, the S&W 1911 is extremely well-made, as close to 100% reliable as any handgun could be, and it won't cost the farm. I've heard a lot of positive stuff about Kimber.

Do research. Narrow choices. Rent at indoor ranges. When you find one that's perfect for you, buy it.

BTW, never forget that if you have doubts about a handgun's reliability, don't buy it.

Like with any pistol purchase go to the store and feel up a few. If they have guns to try then rent a couple that feel good. The one that feels the best and shoots the best is the one that comes home with you;) If they have a Walters PPQ 45 make sure you try that one out.

I like one version of the S&W 1911 , but it has an external extractor. I can deal with the 1911 from 1911 only. Anything out of the circle seems odd. But its a beauty and has lazer when squeezed, - weird. I have always liked American made, but maybe gotta go phillapean or other in this price. Just test gun when bought, no loss in fun factor.

I like Colt also if that helps, if you can spring a few more bucks. Definitely get the blued 1991, its pretty and will last your lifetime.

Lots of great well made, accurate, quality 45s out there today. In fact, I think most of the major manufacturers are producing a 45ACP worth considering. In the concealed carry size ,I think the Glock 30 S is likely the all around best value n ease of concealment. For a fullsize 45, there are numerous good choices n value but these ones are just great for quality, accuracy, ease of disassembly n handling for me.... Sig P320, Glock 21SF , Beretta Px4 Storm,
