recommend pistol in 45 acp

So many good ones! As for me in compact Kahr PM45/CM45, Glock 30. Full
size Glock 21, SIG Emperor Scorpion 1911, Kahr CT45, Colt Government 1911

i would imagine you are looking for recommendations because you plan on buying one. Do you have a budget figure you are looking to spend? Or are you looking for versatility and conceivability?

I've always been interested in the Glock 41 but would probably pick an M&P 45 due to the grip angle and my experience with the Smith. I think M&P would be more suitable if you want a do-all gun, but many others will tell you to get the Glock. I think for people with very few handguns (not sure if that's you...) I would suggest a double stack striker fired gun every time. They are just too good. I love 1911s and own several, but the newer stuff is excellent and a better choice almost every time. People carry 1911s because they want to!

Full Size- EAA SAR K2 (14+1, DA/SA, based off of the CZ75, big and heavy, $360-500)

Compact- Colt XSE commander.

I have experience with neither of these pistols but if I were in the market for one those would be my choices.

If you can find a Ruger P90 it would be worth checking into. Price is within your budget and they are reliable, accurate, heavy enough to dampen the recoil without being overly heavy.
Just my $.02 worth.

I am looking at the S&W 45 revolver as a possibility. It's a 4" stainless I think named after a famous shooter. Really cool gun I would love to own. Not cheap I think 950 msrp, but S&W is good stuff. It's item 160936JM on gun genie. My favorite this year.

.45

I own three. Colt Gold Cup 1911 (about 70,000 rounds through it at this point).
A Springfield 1911.
A Glock 36.....a nice, handy, carry gun.

Ok I saw the later post with 700 as the cap. Don't go Phillapeanes get a Remington. No experience with them exept a UMC from 1917. Might of been a different everything, but shop them or Ruger in the 700 price range I suggest.

For quality and price line, I'd recommend the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911 .45ACP, made in Israel...the trigger alone is worth the affordable investment!

Bersa Thunder Pro UC in .45 ACP,,,

Bersa Thunder Pro UC in .45 ACP,,,
I own the 9mm version and like it quite a bit.

10 + 1 in .45 ACP
DA/SA with de-cocker
Completely ambidextrous controls.

This pistol has been called the Poor Man's CZ-RAMI,,,
But to tell the truth I like it more than my friend's new RAMI.

The grip is somewhat fat but it uses double-stack magazines,,,
The fatness is mediated by the wonderfully ergonomic grips.

Just another good gun to consider,,,

Maybe a Ruger SR 45? I had one, good trigger, ergonomic. Had a couple fte so I eventually sold it but I would consider one again. The only other 45 I shot was a sw 1911, which was awesome.

I would say you can't go wrong with any Glock offering though, which it what I would get. Choice of size would depend on your intended use.

G41 MOS, or too big or long for Home defense? Or g21.
I have kids, savy kids that get into things, so there is no 1911 cocked and locked laying in bedside table. Ammo in clip is separate. And even if they cannot pull slide back.

I've seen like new Gen4 Glock 21 pistols like mine for under $400.00, these are great used Glock deals, people don't like the grip ergonomics and sell or trade them off, but once you get into a groove with the way it shoots, the ergs won't bother you. This one shreds targets and is 100% reliable straight out of the box with cheap aluminum and steel case factory ammo, this is definitely one of the best shooting pistols that I own!

Sig 320

I was trying to decide between a Glock 21, M&P 45 and Sig 320 45acp and settled on the Sig 320. I am very happy with it. I have a Colt 1911 Government Model but I wanted a gun with a DAO trigger for home defense

Call me close-minded . . .

To me, when I think "45 ACP," I think 1911. And when I think "1911," I think 45 ACP. The two are one in the same in my head. The one noble exception would be the Thompson sub-machinegun, of course.

I'm also not a fan of compact 1911's. 45 ACP, being a low-pressure round, needs the 5" bbl to extract all the ballistic performance it can. Just my opinion.

So I recommend a full-size 1911. I have three. A Colt (from 1984); a Kimber; and a Springfield (both less than a year old). If I could only have one, I'd choose the Springfield without any hesitation.
