The Great Mahoo

I am interested in getting a pocket gun for when my usual carry-arm won't do. I don't have any experience with any guns of this size, beyond the threads here. Please post your oppinions and experiences with any of the following, or any reccomendations for other guns. The only criteria is that is must be small enough to comfortably fit in my pocket and not print.

I've been considering:

NAA 32 ACP Guardian
NAA 380 Guardian
NAA Guardian .32 NAA
NAA 22Mag Revolver
SeeCamp 380 or 32ACP
Ruger LCP
Keltech p3at
Keltech p32

Thanks!

It will be an alternative or backup to my Glock 36 carry gun. I currently have a 32ACP pistol, so having another may be easier on ammo stocks, but I am open to a new cartridge being as it is for defensive use.

DO not carry the NAA mni-revolvers for self-defense, ANY of them.

Their internal parts are fragile and their hammer mainspring is too brittle and can break (mine did and NAA didn't care about that issue). Only use these guns for fun/plinking, but never carry/depend on them. They are not meant to be shot a lot as they are not durable/do not hold up over the long term...despite what some people here will be soon posting to the contrary. Yes, they look VERY well machined and attractive on the OUTSIDE, but INSIDE they look like crap.

Carry one at your own risk.

BTW, also consider the Beretta 3032 Tomcat (inox version only)...I don't like DAO guns since I prefer the option of having SA also...you might, too.

If you buy the Keltec P32, learn the gun, and learn to shoot/maintain the gun-you'll stop carrying your Glock. There is no thinner, lighter pocket pistol.

The NAA mini revolvers are good guns. I have owned some since the late 1980s. Because one person has a problem and wants to gripe about it-does not make them bad. NAA's customer service is good, too.

TGM, The pocket size semi autos are not as reliable as a full size semi auto. A pocket size revolver like the S&W 642, 442, is something you can count on to go bang. Don't stake your life on a pocket size semi auto. orchidhunter

I normally would agree with you, but I am concerned about the size of the Smiths. I tend to prefer revolvers anyway, but I just find these to be a bit too big for what I am looking for. I want something I can just slip into my jeans pocket when I don't/can't carry my larger firearm. The J-Frame revolvers work well enough for coat pockets and such, but I am hoping for sometihng even smaller.

Out of all of those the Seecamps are the best built gun by far. I selected the .32 in the poll, even though I carry the .380, because they are easier to find. They are also cheaper and easier to handle when firing.

The NNA guardians are nice guns, but only the .32acp version is a "pocket gun" if you ask me. The .380 version is quite a bit larger. So is the .32NAA model. Still not as good as Seecamp though.

The Ruger LCP is unknown commodity to me so I cannot recommend it. Especially not with it's initial problems.

Kel-Tec is another matter. They are well known to me and I would not wish one on my worst enemy. They are pure junk. I am pretty fair about most guns, but Kel-Tec and their ilk are just not worth the money at any cost. No matter how cheap they price them. They mass produce an inferior product and then slap a warranty on them knowing that the vast majority of them will never even be fired.

CloudCroft:

Thanks
Didn't know that about the NAA minis...saved me a couple hundred bucks...

Great Mahoo:

PBP is really the expert on these. Rohrburgs, not legal in Kali, are great guns, but expensive.

Berretta's are also, but, they are so close to a J Frame in weight, the J frames should enter the consideration, along with the Kahr PM9.

BTW, also consider the Beretta 3032 Tomcat (inox version only)...I don't like DAO guns since I prefer the option of having SA also...you might, too.
I would not recommend the Tomcat as a pocket gun period. Too bulky and heavy. Especially not the Inox version which is actually thicker than the standard one. :)

I do agree with what you said about the NAA minis. They are a novelty and not much more.

While some of you might consider PBP an expert on these matters, I have owned, worked on, sold, carried, modified, engraved, and shot most of these guns-plus many others over the course of the last 35 + years. PBP is quite qualified to have his opinion-as am I. He has had nothing but bad luck with Keltecs. I have had nothing but good luck with them. I own 8. My wife, daughter, and I all carry them. I have one of the first P32s made.

I would recommend a post-recall Ruger LCP. I have one and it now reliably shoots 6 rounds of Corbon DPX rapid fire WOF. And, any other ammo that I have tried.

My first choice is a 642 alloy Smith j frame. I have no problem with pocket carry in my jeans using a Nemesis pocket holster.

For those occasions when even a 642 is too big I carry my LCP. All things considered I prefer the reliability and power of a .38 +P over a mini .380 but I carry both.
