OP started out wanting a 125 yd small rifle then gets insulted if someone recommends something. says he has been hunting 20 years if so then he should easily know what he needs instead of starting a thread on it and getting butt hurt.

Just the thought of putting a $100 junk optic on a $700 rifle gives me some butt hurt. :eek: ...

... which is funny, because you'd think someone with (allegedly) 20yrs of hunting experience should know better.

Not to mention that for shots on deer or hog-size animals out to 125-150yds, using a 4x-12x magnification range is overkill to the point of producing adverse results. :rolleyes:

Boy howdy this thread stepped in it slid right off the trail. The OP asked for suggestions and stated he found what he wanted and everyone piles on him for it.

There's always one or two jerks that like to troll and no matter what you say, they know better and will quickly let you know. I usually pay attention to their screen names so I can disregard anything they say in the future. Just trolls...what can you say.

Everything came in today and I got it all put together tonight. I'll refrain from posting pictures because I'll sure the trolls will find all kinds of things to pick apart. But I'm very happy with it so I can give a dang less. Anyone that wants to see pics can send me a PM and I'll be happy to send them.

I'm not insulted or butt hurt. I guess if you think you have all the answers you might have trouble understanding why someone would ask for recommendations or suggestions. Seeing as how I don't know everything, I sometimes ask for opinions. Some I value more than others...

Dudenal, you ran this thread 5 pages seeking advice and commentary from the TFL folks here .... :)

The least you can do is post up some pics of this most awesome hunting tool you've created. I, for one, promise to refrain from posting any esthetic comments. ;)
 
I would like to see pictures myself. This forum is for everyone not just a select few.

I did look up your rifle. Thats a nice looking gun with the walnut stock and black forend. I don't have any problems with your choice of scope either.
 
Took the rifle to the range today and I'm not especially impressed, not disappointed, but not grinning from ear to ear either. I was able to get 2 inch groups using my reloads with a cool barrel with my reloads, but man that barrel heats up quickly and groups start opening up. I'm sure tailoring a load specific for this gun would be better. One thing I noticed right off the bat was the trigger pull. Horrendously heavy in my opinion and I think that had something to do with the groups and maybe some inconsistent groups. I put the trigger on my scale and it broke consistently at 6lbs, which is WAY to heavy for me. The gun has the X-Mark Pro adjustable trigger that is used to be adjustable to 3lbs. I adjusted it down until the adjustment screw came completely out and the best I could get was 4.5lbs. Better, but I'd rather be in the 3's, and it aggravates me that the trigger won't adjust to what they claim it will.

All in all, not the most accurate gun I own and an aftermarket trigger might be necessary.

As for the scope, actually pretty decent and very clear. The BDC reticle I'm not a fan of though. Instead of additional ticks for elevation, it uses circles so that's a tad distracting.

I know you said you didn't want a new caliber but I think the cz in 7.62x39 would be ideal. My deer rifle that I used in n.e. Oklahoma was an sks.

I loaded it up 154gr soft points.it was great in the woods there
 
Nice looking gun. And I think the scope looks great. I am not a fan of bullet drop markings myself. But it is what is it is.

If you can't get the trigger to your liking you may have to by an aftermarket. Don't give up on the grouping. Shoot a hundred rounds through it and keep it clean so the barrel gets burnished. It will most likely improve with use. And try different loads. Sometimes loads that aren't full bore will improve groups.

Check and see how the lugs look. Do they have close to 100% contact? If not you may need to lap them. This is very easy to do. But first just shoot it a little.

Thanks. I put 50 rounds through it yesterday, so I'm getting close. Another $105 and I can get a Timney trigger that adjusts from 1.5 to 4lbs. I'm thinking I might have to start saving my pennies because my opinion is the factory trigger stinks.
