Quality SA/DA Carry Pistol

I think whether they are overrated or not is subjective but the statement that "you will never see anyone who carries a gun for a living choose one" is just flat out false. I could point you to several other boards where professional military and LEO are raving about the P-07/09 series.

Not to mention the numerous LEO and military around the world that have used the CZ 75 (or variants) since, oh, 1975 or so...

Definately. But his assertion was "choice" and those people don't necessarily have one as they are issued. But it's good to note the long service life of the design because it factors into the decision of those that have the choice.

But it's just so easy to make it better. 12 lb. hammer spring and no failures in those 4500 rds. As always, YMMV.

You are so right, however I prefer not to tinker with the trigger on my primary defensive pistol. The possibility of it being used legaly against me if I had to use my firearm is to great.

I might buy a 2nd P2000 in the event the "rumors" are true about HK cutting the MSRP on them. I would tinker with that trigger.

That gets repeated ad nauseum. You're talking about going from a 11.5 lb. DA pull (which is overly heavy compared to other modern production DA/SA guns) to a 8.5-9 lb. DA pull that is still almost twice of that which we can find on many "safe-action" pistols (at least 1.5x) and probably twice the length of pull as well. Even Massad Ayoob was only able to find one confirmed story of someone actually having a trigger modification used against him/her, and it was an officer that reflexively pulled a trigger while shifting gears with the other hand. You'd have to have intimate knowledge of the HK P2000 to even be able to tell it was unusual as it would still be close to other production DA/SA pistols. Your gear your call of course.

The issue with carrying the CZ-75B in your case wouldn't be the size (since it's comparable with the Glock-17), but the weight. The Sig 226 and Beretta 92 have alloy frames, making the weight comparable to a Glock; the 75B is all-steel, comparable in weight to a 1911. If you're ok with it, I'd definitely recommend all things CZ, but I'll have to echo the others and point you in the direction of either the compact models (P-01, P-07, PCR) or the P-09 (full-sized polymer).

As far as mods... for $44 in parts and 10 minutes of labor, the CGW Ultra-Lite/SD kit will take your DA pull from 13 pounds down to 7-9 pounds on a factory gun (and even less if you break it in or polish the action).

I'd also suggest changing out the sights (I'm not fond of the tiny dots on most factory CZ's; I think they're worse than Glock sights), but wouldn't call it essential.

I've carried the Stoeger Cougar Compact IWB with no real complaints. It shoots accurately with minimal recoil.

Thanks and good points. I will think on it. How much is one of the springs?

If it has to be 9mm, then the P2000. I really like the slightly larger HK45C. Feels like a Glock 19, hits like a 1911.
I like cocked and locked, but either can be had in LEM (light DA). Quality, reliability.

Alright I'm a huge SIG and Glock guy. I'm also a nice pile of you know what stacked real high lol. So I carry full size as well as 2 compacts every now and then. Glock 19 and P229.

However I also have a 17 and P226. Those might as well be called my favorite guns.

As a friend I would say you're fine with the Glock 17 and spend money on ammo and training. It does everything the way the P226 does.

As a guy on the forum with unlimited time in spending other people's money. Get the P229 or P226 then.

There have been no "QC" issues with the 5 Sigs I currently own plus the three others in my immediate family. I did have the tritium front sight go dark on a P290 that I bought used two yrs ago but Sig sent me a new one free of charge and offered to fix it free as well. Good people in their CS dept. in my opinion.

Immediate family and I current have a P220, two P226's and a P229 that would fit your needs as expressed. All have been superb shooters. For carry, I'd recommend the P229 as a better fit for a medium sized hand. All have been 100% with factory loads. Triggers are good if not great and accuracy has been superb.

For a high end factory standard gun, I think Sig is a great choice...German made or those made in Exeter NH are equally great. They offer quality that does cost but is worth the expense. If you like the DA/SA mode of operation, in my opinion, they lead the pack. You'll like the guns and be proud to own them and will forget the added expense in the enjoyment over the years.

Best Regards, Rod

If you don't mind the size of the Sig P226 it would be a great choice for a high quality carry DA/SA. I find the P229's grip a tad short for my hands but, a great piece regardless. Another would be the Sphinx SDP line. The have 229 and 226 sized models. I've not seen the longer SDP around yet. I also like the P-30 for HK and they too have the longer P-30L. These would be my top three high quality DA/SA models.

Others would be the Beretta 92's or PX-4, CZ's P-07, P-09, P-01, FNH FNX, HK P2000 or USP, Sig 2022. The Walther P-99 AS was mentioned which is a good choice minus a hammer.

I carry an American made SIG 226, it is the finest weapon I've ever owned and I carry it over my keltec p11, beretta 92fs (even a big guy struggles on that one), cz75bd, or HKP30. The closest competitor is the p30 by far though.

I used to think that too until I got a Sphinx SDP in my hands.
