Quality SA/DA Carry Pistol

Compact, lightweight alloy framed CZ-75D PCR. It still carries 15 rounds, is accurate, reliable, but easier to carry. It can double as a home defense, and range gun also. It is that good. Others to consider.

Sig P228/P229
Walther P99c
HK 2000sk
Glock G19

Don't overlook the CZ p-07 if you may want a carry pistol.

Otherwise the CZ75 is the one you'll want.

Honestly know absolutely nothing about Sphinx and Couger examples given here. I assume it will be hard to find a place to try these out but I'll keep them in mind.

If I was going to track down one of these good older-model S&W's, I'd probably just dedicate the time to finding a German made Sig P226. It is strange to me that it seems like S&W never retires revolver models but seem to constantly change semi-auto models.

I know a lot of people are being particular about size but again, I've carried a Glock 17 without any real issue, so duty/full size is not something I have any particular need to avoid.

At this point I'm definitely leaning towards the HK P2000 and Walther P99 as my focus, though i still really want to get my hands on a CZ75. I somewhat favor the P2000 at this point because I like the external hammer and release, though the P99's AS trigger does seem quite fascinating after watching a youtube video about its behavior.

My lady has a P2000 and I just got a CZ75b. Both are fantastic for different reasons. The DA trigger on my CZ is as good as her HK. To me that is saying something. Can't go wrong with any of them. The HK is very modular if that is important.

IMHO the HK's weakest point is the DA trigger.

I agree, though in that case get yourself a Wolff 10 lb. and 12 lb. hammer spring and pick which one suits your fancy (I'd do the light trigger return spring and light firing pin block spring while you're at it). Pretty cheap fix.

My bigger gripe is the long reset. There's no simple spring or part swap for that. There are rumors HK will eventually release a match trigger kit for the P-series, but I'd be pretty amazed.

Some good modifications to a P2000 have been mentioned.

Are there any really common changes people have done to their Walther P99's or to their CZ's (75B or 07)? Or that they "need" for maximum quality.

You started out with a pretty sweet shooter, actually. I have a 92FS and a PX4 Compact in the closet, and as much as I love the 92 I shoot the PX4 more accurately than any of my pistols, and it is the softest shooter of any center fire I have encountered.

Not a bad pistol in your list, though. Try them and pick what YOU like. What WE like is not important.

Sig would be my choice. I think the CZ's are highly over rated on the internet. You'll never see anyone who carries a gun for a living choose one, and for a variety of good reasons. Beretta makes a good gun. I just like the Sig better. No experience with the others.

HK P2000 is my choice. It is my favorite handgun. It is my EDC. It has never had a failure and is very accurate. The DA trigger isnt too bad, I practice with it all the time though. Another consideration might be a P30 more ergonomic than the P2000.

The Beretta M9/92 is a sweet shooter as well, but too heavy for a serious CCW gun. Soft shooting handgun though.

No experience with the Sig or CZ.

I had a SW99 (same as a Walther P99) and that should be high on your list as well. Best trigger of the group. I concealed mine as well, but the smaller grip on the P2000 was better. I dont like the wide rear sights as well.

Sig P229.

Make sure you get a model with an SRT trigger or buy the SRT parts and install them yourself. Without the SRT it is a toss-up between HK and Sig.

I am not a fan of the slide-mounted safety on Berettas because you can accidentally engage the safety when you clear a malfunction. I am not a fan of the partially hidden slides on the CZs because that gives you less area to grip when you clear a malfunction.

It is not that it is a bad trigger I just think that on a gun that pushes $800+ it should have a better out of the box trigger. I agree that it is overly heavy. It is not necessary 12 lbs is heavy enough. Honestly 10 lbs would be enough.

I think whether they are overrated or not is subjective but the statement that "you will never see anyone who carries a gun for a living choose one" is just flat out false. I could point you to several other boards where professional military and LEO are raving about the P-07/09 series.

I like the 40s&w and think it's right at home in the 96a1. It is heavy, but it makes shooting rapidly easy, and gives the gun a nice balance. The SIG 226/229 and CZ'S are also very nice guns also.
