Quality 9mm at cheap price?

Hi, im looking into getting a 9mm pistol. I can barely afford ammo as it is, but making a range trip just to shoot my .22lr isn't really cutting it. Based on ammo prices i think the 9mm is a good choice for a step up in caliber sizes. The .40 and .45 getting a little pricier. What is a good 9mm pistol at around the $300-$500 range? I would really like a 1911 chambered in 9mm but they seem to be hard to find and are way too pricey! I was looking at the Ruger SR9, but i have heard some mixed reviews, and heard they have had problems with barrel peening etc..

any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

If single-stack (7+1) will do it for ya', I love my Kahr CW9... Small (just under 6" long), light (18 oz.), reliable, accurate, sturdy for work-horse range use but concealable too. You can find them in $435+ range.
If you need bigger double-stack in that same $ range, Rugers SR9, SR9C, P95... and Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact are all fine IMHO. There are other all-metal imports in that $ range available but they're too heavy for my taste. ('Course I might be a little odd in the sense that I don't like ANY handguns that weigh more than 28 oz. and even that's a stretch for me... Way prefer 20 oz. and below range really...) Good luck in your search!

I've heard nothing but good things about the SR9 as of late....

then again the SR9C seems to be a winner right out of the gate.... but if I had my pick I'd find a used Ruger P95 in stainless decock only.

everyone whom has shot my SR9c liked it allot,I like it a bunch myself
Trigger is awesome price is right too

9mm ammo is cheap as they come at 10-12 a box
sometimes lower in bulk....

9?

You are looking for a "best buy".
Look at the Makarov pistol chambered for the 9X18 Makarov cartridge - not 9mm Parabellum/Luger/ 9X19.

I probably should of added that i'm in Canada. Where our gun laws are different, some good, some extremely stupid.

Here's the kicker, i can't possess a handgun with a barrel shorter than 4.14 inches. Yes, i know it's absolutely ridiculous. My government feels that if i have a gun shorter than that i can conceal it easier, making it more "dangerous" lol, :rolleyes:even though i possess a fully valid handgun license. and I'm registered with the Canadian government. also, the magazine cannot hold more than 10 rounds. (I know California has this law as well.)

So just to get an idea. The Ruger SR9 has a 105.2 mm barrel, just a fraction of an inch over 4.14 inches making it the shortest barreled handgun i can possess here.

Normally I'd say a Ruger SR9c (the trigger is better than the SR9), but your barrel restriction shoots down that recommendation. I'd look at the Glock 17; I think the 19 may also be just a shade too short for your need.

If you are having trouble affording .22 ammo, how are you going to afford 9MM ammo?

Any CZ 75. The CZ 75B is around $475 and the much lighter Phantom is $450.

They are some of the best shooting guns you can buy in that price range.

This. Or check summitgunbroker.com for good deals on Glock 9mm's and the S&W 5904.

4.14" ? That eliminated all the 4" barrel guns , that's dumb !

You think that's by accident? :barf:

Ordinarily I'd say get a used S&W 5906 but I think it has a 4" bbl.

You might see what Para Ord has in a 1911-style 9mm with 4.5" or 5" bbl. After all, they're made up there, eh?;)

FM or FEG made Browning Hi-power clone! The FM's were actually produced under license for a great deal of time.

$300 for mine and around 2000 rounds of FMJ and JHP without a single hiccup. Great little gun.

the sr9c is a great gun, the full size is good, but not as great of a true shooting weapon as the compact version. if you run across a sig 226 or glock in your price range, i would jump on them (after some range time with them, of course).
