Put up pics of your hunting rifles, especially turnbolts...

tahunua001,
yes, that's what it is. mountain black bear spring hunt last year. it's 6.5x50mm and I was using handloads with 140gr accubonds, bullet did very poorly and I have been very reluctant to use them again. I lucked out and one half of the bullet hit the lungs and the other split and hit the liver so he dropped pretty quickly, but it could have just as easily missed all primary organs and died a slow painful death.

Try 140 grain hornady interlock or AMax. They both work fine for me in my Type 38 sporter.

Just to keep this going, here are a few rifles that have passed through my hands over the years.

Pre 64 custom .280 Remington, sold it to a hunting buddy for his son's first elk rifle. Douglass #2 24" stainless steel barrel on 1958 M70 FWT action, bedded in a Brown Precision stock. The Vari-X III 2.5-8X36 that was on it was moved to my stainless M70 FWT Classic in .30-06.

Here are some I shoot most:

My "fly weight" rig is a Kimber Montana in 308 with a Leupold VX6 3x18 FireDot. About 6lbs and it would be my any weather, general, big game rifle I carry most.
Ridiculously light, rugged, and very well-balanced makes it my "perfect rig"

My "nice weather" handsome general purpose big game rifle is a Winchester M70 Jack O'Connor tribute rifle. Obviously in 270Win and topped off with a Leopold VX6 3x18 Fire Dot. This is a special rifle that I do hunt with and am very careful but do enjoy carrying it in the woods.

Small game rig is a Savage BSEV in 22lr. This gun is a killing machine. Funny to see crows land out past 100 yards thinking they are safe....

I prefer the animals alive so I don't hunt. Too much effort, anyway. I just like the guns.

I have a few bolt rifles that would be considered hunting guns.

In case rhinos start roaming my neighborhood.

A classic caliber.

Some may not like this but here's my Remington Lee 1899 in 30-40 Krag. It is one of the original 2000 used by the Michigan National Guard. But wait it wasn't bought in full configuration. It was a lonely action and burned out barrel when my grandfather a gunsmith picked it up to build a sporter to go with his original Remington Lee.

It has been re-barreled and it's an open sights only configuration. Hand carved stock and hand checkering by my uncle. Dead on best opensights rifle I own.

Here's my newest hunting rifle that will likely see the most use this season. It's a Remington 700 that started life as a BDL in .243.

I had it rebarreled with a stainless .308 barrel, had it chopped back to 16 1/4" and threaded, had the bolt handle threaded for an aftermarket knob, and had the barreled action Cerakoted graphite black. It has a Boyd's thumbhole stock, and yes that is a lefty thumbhole/right hand action. It shoots consistent 3/4" groups @100 yards. It's probably about to get a bedding job to try to tighten the groups up a bit.

It has a Burris 3-9x40 scope on a one-piece DNZ mount. The whole setup is about 7.5 lbs and 36" long. Makes it easy to carry and maneuver through the woods, on an ATV, in a treestand, etc.

My dad got me started at a very young age shooting right handed rifles from my left shoulder, so it's just what I'm used to. I like the lefty thumbhole/righty action because I can grip the stock and support the rifle with my left hand, cycle the bolt with my right hand, and never move my trigger finger or my cheek weld.

To answer your question, this setup was by design. It is ideal for my preferences, even if some may find it a bit silly

posted these pics before... but have since replaced over half the scopes... also I've added a couple & made some changes, so I'll try to add a new pic following...

I've since moved the short actions to the left, & long actions to the right, removed the 17 Mach 2 ( top left in the pic ) to another rack, moved the 416 Rigby, & 53 caliber ( 32 gauge brass shell slug rifled barrel ), to another rack...new calibers in this corner range through...

short action side

17 Fireball
22 K Hornet
223
243
6.8 SPC
7 X 57
308

Long action side

25-06
270
7mm Magnum
30-06
338 Win Mag
35 Whelen
375 H&H

might move the 416 back here, if I can make it fit on the rack :o

you guys and your walk in gun rooms... here I have to store my safes at my mom's place because I I can't get them into my tiny apt.

sorry, but it was hard, & long time coming... I had rifles crated up, 4 gun lockers, & stuff stashed all over for way too many years...

there is one bad thing about displaying everything ( well 2 really ) 1st... there is now, only a finite amount of room, & even though I thought I built it plenty big, I had to consolidate a lot of things ( traded off my 11-48 & Mossberg 500 collections, for lack of room )... 2nd... now MRS sees them all, every time she goes to get jewelry or ??? out of the room, & thinks we have too many, which she usually says, while holding her jewelry box, with a pouted lip

Beautiful display Magnum Wheel Man..:)... I am now 50/50 between hanging them on the wall in my office and studio and keeping the others in the safe. Some of the ugly functional tactical stuff are hidden in strategic locations for easy access. I like to see the pretty ones on the wall. I appreciate them as art. Curious, how often do you wipe them down with a silicon cloth?? I am about every 6 months but not sure it is necessary since the rooms are climate controlled. Looks like you have good air flow in you gun room.

I honestly don't wipe them down as often as I should... no corrosion issues, as there are 2 dehumidifiers running all the time, the air is drier than in the rest of the air conditioned house... but I'm still doing finish carpentry, ( though I've really tried to cut down on cutting wood in there ) I still or did get fine wood dust on everything... but I've really limited the cutting, since I got my load benches set up in there as well, & will be putting a couple hepa air filters in each room, to cut down on any dust...

I had posted about what to hang the guns on, as I was originally looking at the brass / felt hangers, but settled on my home made racks, that use 1/2" hardwood dowel pegs inserted into angled holes on 2 bys screwed to the wall... various holes allow for lots of adjustment...

BTW, there is a similar rack for milsurps, & another for CZ / BRNO rifles, ( which also qualify as hunting rifles ) a smaller one for single shot carbines, & a wheeled 2 X 8 ft double sided vertical rack for longer guns like single shot rifles, muzzleloaders, & shotguns... plus another pair of racks for my CAS guns ( several double barrel shotguns, several lever guns, & my single action revolvers )

I didn't mention my modern & antique revolvers... if you look at what I have here, the gun room was long past due, took me 2 years, & lots of concrete & steel to put together...

BTW... MYSTRO... you may notice, that JOC rifle is not in that picture... but will be in the one I'll post later... she now wears a nice Luepold scope, Luepold bases & engraved rings... & fits nicely above my 100th anniversary of the 30-06 version of the Remington 700 ;)

BTW #2... tahunua001 love the Arisaka... I have a factory carbine in my milsurps, but it has a cut down rifle stock on it... I'd love to find the bayo, & business end hardware, for a carbine, to fit on the end or ??? but the barreled action is perfect, still has the mum... got a couple 100 Norma brass & getting ready to do some loading for it...

I figured you may have had those hanging in your den or "man cave".
