Punisher grips on 1911 issues?

I like the looks of the Punisher style grips for a 1911, but I'm wondering if anyone thinks there would be any extra legal problems or issues if you used a gun sporting those grips in a self defense shooting? Seems like some prosecuter could use it as an excuse that this guy was looking for trouble, trying to play the right hand of God type angle. Anyone else think the same thing?

You do not want anything on your gun or vehicle insinuating to a jury that you are some sort of vigalantie or anything. If I were gonna put those type of grips on one of my guns the gun would be stricly a range gun and not sd gun.

Let's try it, shall we?

"Why do you idolize The Punisher, a Marvel Comics character famous for swift deadly justice rooted above and beyond the laws of society? Do you think you are above the law?"

"You say you don't idolize him, but are you not carrying the same weapon that Frank Castle carries in his comics and movies? Does the weapon not bear his symbol? Would it not be logical to assume you are trying to embody the "outlaw hero"?"

You decide. Does this sound far-fetched?

Being a LEO, the postings are spot on. The lawyers would have a field day with the fact that you "equipped your weapon to punish people". I actually have them on one of my Kimbers, but like VIRG said, it is strictly a range gun. I would never carry it off duty. My Chief would have a heart attack if he seen me carry that off duty. Besides, a TLE Custom II would be to big for a ccw anyway.

Yep.

if you are prosecuted, anything will be used against you.
Type of gun
Type of ammo
Magazines you read
Computer history ( like being on this board)
Car you drive
Size of your bank account
Training you have done
Having a CCW
Magazine size of your gun. (yes, they'll call it a clip)

I wouldn't worry too much about the punisher grips.
Just add that to the list. (glorification of killing)

Sadly these days most prosecutors are not interested in the truth, but a high conviction rate.

Punisher grips, Grim Reaper grips....etc. May look cool, but I wouldn't even put them on a range only gun.

When they want to "get you", they are going to drag up EVERYTHING they can find, so that range only gun, if they learn about it, (and don't think that an aggressive enough prosecutor going after someone for a SD shooting he doesn't like, won't go looking to interview folks at any range your known to be a member of) will drag it in so he can hold it up in front of a jury.

All to often court cases come down to the perception portrayed to the jury, and lawful gun owners and carriers have an uphill battle already.

Well, I do think they look kinda cool. But I was thinking they would be a bad idea for a SD gun. And that's been pretty much confirmed by almost everyone. Just wanted to double check that idea. Thanks for the advice.

Remember the one Detective in the O.J. Simpson case that went through hell,
just because somebody heard him make racist jokes in years past? In a court fight the opposing sides job is to bring anything they can to bear to destroy your reputation, charecter, judgement ect. One is forced to be so "PC" these days, that im not sure its ok to refer to your own shoe as being left or right...cus thats labeling, and thats wrong.
But that being said , you can still have your punisher grips..just be aware it will just make an allready bad day slightly worse. I was envolved in a case that caused me to sit though 13 hrs of deposition by the DA's office..I had to spend 30 min of that explaining why I had one of those Christian Fish symbols on the back of my personal car (mine was the variant with shark teeth and dorsel fin) lol and had at one time told a person that ask, that it was a anchient hebrew symbol for "has lawyer" ..yes they get that petty.

I actually think there's a class of "edgy gun decor" that you could actually get away with: stuff that makes the gun look scarier to whoever you're pointing it at.

"Yup - it's psychological warfare, if I can scare a mugger [bleep]less and watch him run away, that's better than having to shoot him."

Punisher grip panels don't fall into that category.

Yes, they could very easily used against you. Of course, my response to any of the above prosecutor's questions would be, "I was in fear of my life. Who the hell is Frank Castle?" That won't work for you now since you already asked on here however.

No doubt my signature quotes could be used against me in a nasty court battle. The first one in particular, or even the others.

"Isn't it true that Special Agent Gibbs, a character you idolize, once murdered a man in Mexico? Isn't it also true that he performed assassinations in Europe on more than one occasion?"

"Billy the Kid, a man you also idolize, was a known murderer, was he not?"

The best hope is a good lawyer and a judge with good sense, because the truth is of no interest to many DAs.
