Project for the home

I dont know about anybody else but my pgo 870 is incredible. Without that huge stock I have the ability to swing that puppy right in front of my face "cone of vision" I have found that while it IS more painful to shoot, once I adapted to shooting it, I pop more clays in a row than ANY of my shooting buddies. Their hits improve as well as soon as they pick it up! Different strokes for different folks people! The only time I EVER want a full stock on a shotgun is if im using it to hunt.

+1 for the pgo!

*you did good work customizing your weapon, although the way that grip is shaped.....I dunno........I say buy a mossy 500 or a remy 870 and trick it with parts that were designed to fit the gun. Just my .02 take it how you will.

Yes I know, I took the dremel to my fore-end, but hell I had to to get the side saddle to fit! Oh and uhh...yeah...that saftey is ON, your eyes are deciving you!:D

18.5 I belive.......Man I took some 3 inch magnum slugs up and shot 'em last weekend with the remy and let me tell ya, THAT was a blast! lol, not reccomended for the weak wristed!

my opinion is based on ME with MY pistol grip shotgun. your "expertise" doesnt mean jack to me. if you cant handle it, thats your problem, not mine. i handle mine just fine. i already said that so stop repeatin yourself. you need to accept the fact that not everyone agrees with you and your opinions. i think your the one that needs more education on the matter.

im a nice guy, but when im insulted and whatnot like in this topic, i wont back down. especially when "know it alls" put their 2 cents in.

Hey lets chill guys, arguing over the internet is like competing in the special olympics.......even if you win your still retarded. Pistol grips are fine for home defense and messing around but not so great for anything else. Good work customizing your shot. Now report back to us after sending a few rounds thru it so we know how it preforms. Good luck and happy shooting!

this is chilled out. i just love when people that think they know everything give their opinion on how theirs is better and this that and the other. its funny and amusing. i havnt got fired up yet.

by the way, Luke, that is one nice 870. does it hold 7+1? if it does its probly a 20'' barrel.

thanks man i needed that. maybe i should get mine out of the safe and put up a video of me shootin some slugs or 3 inch mags. just to show some people that it can be handled.

Holy Cow

Strong opinions getting posted. I've yet to go try my new project on the range. But worst case scenario, I find a new stock and remount it. I've done stranger things than this and through advice and experiment, I'll have own opinion. And I'll answer honestly if someone asks. I dont mind being wrong. I've just never know anyone who had experimented with modifying the furniture this way. Maybe there's a reason...

I think theres something to be said for both a full stocked and a pistol grip only configuration....Everyone knows a full stock is going to be more stable and accurate, but its also longer and more unwieldy, which can make it less than ideal in a HD situation. (Dont get me wrong, I think a shotgun IS the ideal home defense weapon). If you can get some practice in and shoot well enough with a stockless shotgun then more power to you. Its probably not the best or most reliable method, but it can be done. If all I had was a pistol grip shotgun, I wouldnt feel like I was at some disadvantage for HD situations. I've shot them before and I'm sure that I could fare well enough for the minimal amount of shots that a HD incident usually requires.

Yes PG shotguns has their place, like in the back of a armored car, but 98% of the time it can be out shot by a regular stocked shotgun any where else.

I'm still learning about shotguns, I only have about 300,000 rounds downrange of assorted shotshell ammo, might be getting close to what Dave Mcc has shot someday, or some of the other people that post here that I know personally and opinions I think matters. I don't tend to post often, but some things just get me a bit riled. I'm not that old, getting close to forty, only shot about 4000 rounds of shotshells last year, not like when I competed and 30,000 was about normal for a years shooting. I know many people that can out shoot me most of the time and Dave is probably one of them.

Sure the PG gun looks neat, but tell me it's still neat after 5000 rounds.

Kudu you are absolutely right, I think all that the guy was trying to convey is that a PG shotgun will work for home defense. Sure its harder to use, and not quite as accurate, but it still works with a little practice. Would I take one to the range everytime I go and put hundreds of rounds through it? No. But would I trust my life to one in a home defense situation? Sure why not.

somebody has anger management issues.

I'm new to this forum, but I must say that guy has a problem with others having a difference of opinion.
Can't we all just get along? Hee Hee.:D :D

if your talkin about me, maybe you need to read it all again. others were sayin its "useless" and only things to that effect. i argued that its not, but they kept sayin it is. so who has a problem with others opinions? ill give you a minute to let it sink in....

looks like we have another one with a weak wrist

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's just that some don't stand up over time
or don't apply to most other people. So, how can you sort out the useful opinions from the less than useful opinions? I have a litmus test.

Show me a pro, someone with training and experience that goes into harms way for a living. Real pro's don't care about cool, they want to stay alive and kill bg's as efficiently as possible.

That validates things for me, and backs up which opinions hold water.

I've never seen a pro choose a pg shotgun. Anyone else seen one?

I have PG for my mossberg but I have never put it on. I just wanted it to play with once or twice but I always planned to use the regular stock. So I have a question for those of you that choose to always use the PG-only. Do you hip shoot everything or do you still hod it up to eye level to aim (point) jsut not against your shoulder?

I was at the range where I shoot the other night when a guy came in with a PG Mossberg 500 he had just bought from somebody. He told the rangemaster that knew nothing about guns and the rangemaster recommended that he put a full size stock on it. He even had one handy that would fit and offered to install it for him to let him try it out that way even before purchasing it. He said no, he wanted to keep it with the PG. One rangemaster took him into the range where he fired two shots and we see him through the glass shaking his hand and cursing. The other rangemaster looked at me and said, "I bet he wants that stock now."

About 30 seconds later he and the other rangemaster came out to install that stock.

Those guns may be handier to turn corners with and some people may enjoy shooting them, I don't. Personally I'll stick with my pistolgrip with buttstock configuration or just a straight stock. IF I were ever to put a PG only rear stock on it I'd put a PG forend on it too. They're more comefortable to shoot since the recoil is absorbed in the webbing of both hands instead of just one.
