I live and work in Boston and this place is going to be nuts today and tonight, they are already shutting down major streets which leaves me to beleive the commute home is going to be a nightmare.

Anyway,
What is your predictions on tonights debate? The buzz is that Gore is going to try to belittle Bush right from the start, I really hope that Bush can come accross in a commanding manner and prove to people that he is a lot more than just a colledge frat boy.

So here we have it, round one is here. Keep those fingers crossed and hope that Bush can make Gore look foolish right from the start.

Teevee says their surveys predict 80%+ of registered voters will watch the debates. There is a hard core of Bush people and a hard core of Gore people who will not be swayed, but there is a big chunk in the middle who could go either way depending on what they see. My advice to both candidiates is DO NOT SCREW UP. You can get by with a routine recital of your platform, but IMHO the first one to make a glaring mistake is going to lose big time.

"There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe!" -- Gerald Ford, in a debate just before losing the election. Duh? Then where did all those tanks come from? Ask the Czechs! Ask the Yugoslavs! Ask the Poles!

Whatever you think of their policies, the record shows Gore to be a more effective public speaker than Bush. Dubya has slipped up in front of enough microphones that I'm beginning to believe the theory that he's a closet dyslexic. We'll see whether Bush can handle the mike when he can't work from prepared notes.

Gore has made a few questionable remarks; like most politicians. No one really believes he invented the Internet. Gore's best tactic will be to lay out his pown platform and point out how Bush's platform benefits Dubya's home boys in Big Oil (oh, those freezing widows and orphans!) and other big businesses.

I say it again: the first guy to put his foot in his mouth will lose this one.

George will do just fine. I remember when he debated Ma Richards in Texas back in 1994, I believe. He ate her lunch! Democrats have been underestimating George for a long time. Have faith, my friends!

Regardless of the actual performance of either candidate, G(wh)ore will be declared the winner by the leftist mainstream media.

I predict that Gore will come off as a stiff, cold beaurocrat that is only interested in self promotion. While Bush will come accross as a concerned public servent.

Seriously, though, I believe Bush will do very well. He has become very comfortable with discussing the issues and he'll be relaxed and personable. One thing that you have to remember is the fact that the US ain't all that smart on the issues. They're gonna be watching this to see which personality they like the best. That's a "no contest" contest. They're gonna decide, by demeanor alone, which one they believe will have the better ability to lead. Bush is quite capable of showing his genuine concern for the welfare of our nation, and how eager he is to lead us.

Bush will do well.
Gore will be Gore. He will spew rhetoric.

"There you go, again..." <grin>

Just keep in mind that it was that SAME leftist mainstream media that was putty in the hands of Ronald Reagan.

While the media does tend to be more Liberal than conservative, I don't think its as simple as you imply.

I agree, but until that happens, here goes:

Gore will come off as cold, stilited and robotic...but he probably won't say anything blindingly stupid.

Bush will come off as more natural and charismatic, but much more likely to try and swallow his shoe.

Either way Gore will get the best spin out of the media, even if he advocates killing small children and feeding them to the homeless. I can hear them now: "That is a radical new plan, which truly embodies this man's style of reinventing government..."

This is crazy! I have butterflies just thinking about it! I guess it's because there is so much at stake: our 2nd amendment rights, the liberal agenda being pushed by the Democrats, the potential Supreme Court appointments. I have to believe that both sides will be prepared and and ready to attack and defend themselves. I always believe that the one who remains cool under pressure comes across most effectively and will win. If this turns out to be a draw then I'll continue to be nervous all through election time!

I appologize for placing this topic in the wrong forum and I thank the moderators for not locking it.

It seems like you get quite a bit more responces in this forum, and with a topic like this and a night like tonight, we need all the support from each other we can get, it does help to calm the nerves.

I'm voting for whoever is for peace in the middle east, reducing taxes, more Medicare benefits, a strong nation for the 21st century, prosperity for the middle class, more education for the kids, government you can trust, family values, kindness to animals, Mom, apple pie, AND.....ice cream.

Wotta pair of bums.

Oh? My PREDICTION???
Both will be lying but Gore will be smoother.
Bush will step on his tongue 5 times in the first paragraph and Gore will smile tolerantly.

The only element of chance that Bush has in a debate would be to ask as the 1st question: "Mr. Gore, why are you such a flip-flopping radical leftist dangerous lying pr**k?"

My prediction is that Bush will talk on the issues, and what he will do for the country and his policy, and Gore will attack, belittle and sling mud at Bush, and hopefully the American People will realize what a jerk Gore is.

I hope, anyway.

Since this is handguns and pistolcraft I had to consult my handguns. The Ruger give the nod to GW along with the SIG, Beretta, Colt and Browning. When I asked my Dad's Soldout & Worthless it choose to go with Gore. Go figure.

Wow, thats funny! Ruger has done more to destroy your second ammendment rights then S&W ever did!

I agree that GWB will get the best of Gore. Problem is, I'll bet that not very many people will watch it. And then the stinkin' media will convince them that Gore won no matter what and that'll sway them to his camp. Media sucks sometimes huh? Hey, I gotta idea. Lets all ban together and sue the media for being biased!!!!
