Just wondering how large the fringe is here at TFL. Over at THR, the fringe turned out to be quite a bit larger than the rug.

The fringe always turns out this time of year to try to control the rug :)

The fringe on a rug is window dressing, the center on the rug is the vital part:D

This poll is going to go to very bad places. If you're looking for bandwagon advice. If you're looking for the fringe, then you've already found it.

This forum, like all forums, and all online environments, suffer from extreme cases of participation inequality. A very small minority of visitors generate the vast majority of content.

For example, there's this woman on Amazon.com that's written over 15,000 lengthy book reviews. Seriously. And Digg.com, the top 100 users are responsible for something like 56% of the homepage articles.

The point being, those that contribute the most represent a small but loud minority. This minority contributes the most because they are the most passionate about the topic. And those most passionate tend to be the most biased.

I wouldn't be surprised if Guliani and McCain get no votes on this poll, even though, nationally, they're the (R) frontrunners. Very likely that the visitors to TFL who never post anything are the ones prefering those two candidates.

Unfortunately, Wildalaska is correct. That is why I will vote for Nobody* in 2008**.

* If you happen to be in a state where write in candidates are acceptable, by all means vote your conscience. I, however, live in Oklahoma where it is impossible for a third party candidate to get on the ballot and write in's are not allowed.
** To properly vote for Nobody, register to vote, show up to the polling place, vote for a Senator or some legislation that you support, but leave the Presidential part of your ballot blank. You will show up statistically, but you will effectively nuke your vote for President.

When the frontrunners are pretty much phonies who want to ban guns, why would you be surprised they'd be unpopular here?

The only candidates I see support for among gun owners I know are, on the (R) side, Thompson and Paul, and on the (D) side, Bill Richardson.

Shame we can't test applesanity's hypothesis by seeing who voted for who.
I voted for Paul, so it sounds funny coming from a guy who's been here...like...a whole 2 months :D

Maybe he means everybody except me?

Au contraire, I betcha most of the TFRers prefer anyone other than the good old Doc.

Its just that we got things like jobs and suchlike to keep us way to busy to voice our opinions :)

PS heard that one on the radio the other day talking about some silly leftylooney protest wherein it was stated: "of course those young 'uns can spend all their time protesting for socialism...mommy and daddy are still supporting them......:)"

You just point that out 'cuz you know that I've got a thing for Japanese women, huh? Damn you!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled diatribe already in progress...

So...like...on what basis are we claiming the opinions of people who never voice them? I mean, they're obviously not Paul supporters since Paul supporters are, by definition, very vocal.

Maybe they're Brownback supporters since he's in the race and nobody seems to know why...

Um...faith in the fact that the bulk of my fellow Board members are as educated, reasonable and mature as I, free of dogmatic narrowmindedness?

Exactly!

Thompson and Richardson might be tolerable on guns (I'm not perfectly sure where they really stand yet), but Paul will veto ANY anti-gun legislation that finds its way to his desk, and he would sign any pro-gun legislation.

People need to be very, very careful about trusting the GOP on guns. Reagan signed the 1986 machine gun ban into law. The first Bush signed the 1989 Import Ban into law. The second Bush said that he'd sign a bill renewing the 1994 AWB if it got to his desk. And now we have *$%@ing statist liberals in the GOP like Giuliani. I can't believe so many gun owners are deluded enough to think that the GOP is pro-gun. If gun owners continue to support the GOP, then we WILL lose our legal rights. We'll probably lose them more slowly than if we'd supported the Democrats, but the end result will be exactly the same.

If it were up to Ron Paul, we'd probably all be able to legally buy and keep belt-fed machine guns in our homes. I can't imagine ANYONE who cares about RKBA for the right reasons (cf. my signature) not supporting Paul 100%. I guess some people are just so in love with America's pointless embroilment in Middle Eastern wars that they're willing to give up their freedoms to maintain the status quo, supposedly in the name of "security."
