Close ranges? If I can't hit a man sized target in a vital zone with every shot at 50 yards with anything other than a pocket pistol, or half of them at 100, I just throw the gun away.
I am going to hop on WAs bandwagon here. (Actually I will hop on Wildalaska's back for a bit and I should get a ride free of charge; I have dropped a few dinero for the smiths at WWG, and the work has always been first rate.)
For me, life is too short to be messing around with something that can't hit the broad side of a barn's weathervane set back a bit.
I regularly shoot out to 100+ yards with my pistols; and haven't kept any in the safe that don't perform well for me at those ranges, unless a bit of smithing can make it happen, then it happens. I have accuracy guaranteed pistols, and have helped to feed a few smith's kids for a few days/weeks/months?... Sometimes I think maybe part of their future college tuition! (Note: with the exception of
a pocket pistol.)
And don't get me started on accurizing rifles! Now we are talking in the 100s of yards. (Definitely starting to really think college tuition for the smith's kiddies!)
There are snobs, and then there are also some who really enjoy the challenge of accurate shooting; very different then what you would get with a High Point, or many other makes and models, out at 100+ yards.
If it is not your "cup o tea" to be making little itty-bitty groups way out there... more power to your personal interest in shooting!
Heck, there are Glock snobs. There are 1911 snobs. There are (insert your fanboy brand/model here) snobs.
Snobbery: it is a mindset; the make/model is just the "excuse".
