Prank on gun snob

I called him a snob because he doesn't like my Glocks.

I dont like Glocks either, ergo I am a gunsnob?

The problem is people are forgetting the basic purpose of the pistol, and that is to launch bullets at people at close ranges.

Close ranges? If I can't hit a man sized target in a vital zone with every shot at 50 yards with anything other than a pocket pistol, or half of them at 100, I just throw the gun away.

That's the basic purpose of the DEFENSIVE pistol. There are others. Quite a few others, in fact, something a lot of people ovelook.

I got no quarrel with the High Point, if that's all you can afford, its a lot better than no gun at all, by a long shot.;)

people who have them say they work, and what more do you need for a minimum? I could drive a Mercedes, but I get better economy from my Focus with a 100 mile per day commute. A little different when it comes to guns, but the princple still applies, get the job done first, do it in style when/if you can.

Not sure WildAlaska, we would have to go shooting together a few
times first for me to make a judgment on this

Cool I'll bring a SIG 210-1, a Custom BHP and just to make your Glocks sob brokenly like the polymer rats they are, I"ll drag out the 1877 Webley-Pryce. Maybe my bud will let me borrow his 1 of 10 custom Blaser 500 double, if so, we need to keep it fifteen feet away form your Glocks so as not to infect.

:)

I am going to hop on WAs bandwagon here. (Actually I will hop on Wildalaska's back for a bit and I should get a ride free of charge; I have dropped a few dinero for the smiths at WWG, and the work has always been first rate.)

For me, life is too short to be messing around with something that can't hit the broad side of a barn's weathervane set back a bit.

I regularly shoot out to 100+ yards with my pistols; and haven't kept any in the safe that don't perform well for me at those ranges, unless a bit of smithing can make it happen, then it happens. I have accuracy guaranteed pistols, and have helped to feed a few smith's kids for a few days/weeks/months?... Sometimes I think maybe part of their future college tuition! (Note: with the exception of a pocket pistol.)

And don't get me started on accurizing rifles! Now we are talking in the 100s of yards. (Definitely starting to really think college tuition for the smith's kiddies!)

There are snobs, and then there are also some who really enjoy the challenge of accurate shooting; very different then what you would get with a High Point, or many other makes and models, out at 100+ yards.

If it is not your "cup o tea" to be making little itty-bitty groups way out there... more power to your personal interest in shooting!

Heck, there are Glock snobs. There are 1911 snobs. There are (insert your fanboy brand/model here) snobs.

Snobbery: it is a mindset; the make/model is just the "excuse".

Wow - spirited discussion.

I have no Hi point, Charter arms, Glock, Taurus, Rossi, or Davis. Am I officially a gun snob? Cool.

BTW, I do have a SW40VE, and I like it...:D:D

Being a gun snob aint bad...im kinda one, mostly a trigger snob though. I know people who buy something, and automatically think its the worlds greatest thing. Somebody has to bring them to reality.

IMHO the joke kind of backfired because YOU ended up with the HiPoint. :p

Now what WOULD have been REAL funny/mean, would be to switch one of his nice guns for the hipoint without him noticing it. Then he gets home and goes to clean the nice gun, he discovers the HiPoint sitting in it's case instead.:D
(I would only suggest this if you are VERY good friends AND he could appreciate the joke.)

To make it EVEN funnier AND a more obvious joke (instead of a theft at the range), you could buy a broken "parts only" piece of junk AND write whatever nice gun' name on the side with a Sharpie marker.

Just imagine the look on someone's face, when they open their range bag and find a Rohm with "Python" written on it.

If you hear a rustling outside your house every couple of weeks, it's just me going through your trash. :D

That is correct! And unlike what wealthy people assume, in as much as, it's not that we have nothing worth stealing, so why bother... It is the fact that we prefer to keep what we do have.

As for the OP, I have nothing against a Hi-Point, and have owned a few, but both were purchased to re-sell. They do what they are supposed to do, for the most part, but were simply not designed or constructed to fill a need that I have.

I agree with this. Just because you would not own something does not mean it is not good for someone else. There are a lot of things I would never own but I don't tell anyone but my wife about that.

Gun snob, here.....If my cheap fishing rod breaks, I might lose a fish. If my cheap truck won't start, I might have to call a cab. If my cheap gun falls apart, or jams, or whatever.....when I "need" it....well.....

I would never act snobby or judgemental towards a friend, because of their gun choice. I just wouldn't trust a poor quality piece of junk when it comes to protecting my family.

Want to know what happened after we started shooting? I couldn't hit
the target at 15yds, yes thats right. I tried adjusting the rear sights with
the custom tool that came along in the box. No luck... I did get 6 stove
pipes out of a box of 50 wwb.

Said Hi Point was sold to a pawn shop :D

Everybody should buy what they can afford ...and what they want...

Ideally - if they carry - they should carry the gun they shoot the best. Best trigger, best controls, best grips that fit their hands, the sights they like, the caliber they like ...etc ...

I favor well made guns with great triggers - so personally I like to shoot some of the higher end 1911's / and its what I carry as well. To me / Wilson Combat makes a great carry gun ...and a great gun in general ..and yes, they aren't cheap - but so what ...

If a guy likes a Glock, or a Hi Point, or a Beretta ...or ??? ....and shoots it well ....and wants to carry it ... I don't look down on him / and I hope he doesn't look down on me just because I choose to carry a $ 2,500 Wilson Combat CQB 1911 ..doesn't make me a snob ...or a fool ..../ and frankly I don't care what anyone else thinks ....its my gun / I'll carry it if I want to.

It also doesn't mean I can't have a good time at the range shooting some old high standard .22's / or some old S&W revolvers that I only paid a few hundred bucks for .... We're all part of the shooting fraternity ... I have friends that own and shoot Glocks / better than I can shoot a 1911 ....but it isn't about that ...its about what I shoot the best. Frankly they'd be way harder for me to beat --- if they shot good 1911's ..in my opinion / or a gun with a better trigger ....but it isn't in their budget or whatever ...so they shoot what they can afford and what they like ...just like me.

Maybe some of you should actually try to get someone to allow to hold and fire something other than a walmart special

Walmart sells handguns?

isnt the cost, a snobs stuff is always better than yours even if yours cost more. The snob will have some flippant crap to say that makes yours look insufficient and his the best in the world knda like trumps haircut :) I shot a guy, oops I used to shoot with a guy like that :)

I see that the point of the OP was to have some fun with a friend. Some of you run off about 'my guns all shoot tiny groups, or I throw certain guns away' - lighten up! This is about fun with a friend.

Back when bullseye was the game, one local character got ahold of a 4" Iver Johnson with a bent front sight. But, the gun would shoot good groups. He bent the sight a bit more, so he could hold on the NRA Seal in the corner of the target, and shoot hits in the 9-10-X ring.
He drank a lot of free beer after he got that old gun, winning contest after contest. Of course, he got the other guy to spot him a few points after they saw the nickel finish flaking off and the bent sight.

No serious money, just some fun with guys with guns that cost 5-10 times as much.
