Pocket Pistol Other than LCP?

Anything better? With the amount of LCPs running around I'm afraid if I get one it will get mixed up with someone else's :o

Honestly though, is there anything better or is the LCP the best?

Well......it's not as small as a LCP but the Kahr PM9 or CM9 can be carried in a pocket and have significantly more power.

It all depends what you mean by better, and how much you want to spend.
The Sig P238 at over twice the price or an Elsie Pea is a very popular, scaled down 1911 type pocket pistol chambered in 380 ACP. The Rohrbaugh R9 is a 9MM pocket auto of relitively the same size of many 380 mouseguns. With a price of 4 or 5 times as much. Some consider the new mini 9's like the Ruger LC9, Beretta Nano, and Kimber Solo to be pocket guns. Probably not so much in anything but loose fitting pants though.

I prefer to carry IWB but, for those times that's not possible I carry a NAA .22mag in a kydex pocket holster. The little NAA is so tiny I don't even know it's there but I feel comfortable that if push comes to shove this little revolver will do its job.

Personally I traded my LCP for an older Smith and Wesson 37 airweight j frame, and think its one of the best decisions Ive ever made. It is a much more shootable gun for me, almost as concealable, and a more powerfull caliber. Pulling the gun from concealment, and firing off a cylinder full is much faster, easier, and more accurate for me. The LCP was a nightmare to shoot fast and accurate. Easy to carry, yes, but not a very good self defense gun, for me anyways. I get the feeling that most LCP owners go to the range, shoot a few mags through it slow and steady range like, and then consider it good to go for ccw. Try shooting that thing in some drills. Or pull it quick and try to be accurate with it it, with that super long 4" travel trigger pull. The LCP is a product of marketing, not functionality.

Sig P238 great, accurate, reliable weapon!!

But when you're serious, bring a 45!!

Pocket pistol other than LCP

I had an LCP and wanted to move up a little. I got rid of it and got an LCR. I like the LCR but sometimes it's just a little too big for jeans etc. I bought another LCP and carry it when I can't carry the LCR. I like em both, I carry em both, I shoot em both. And yes, I practice with them both at quick draw from the pocket and double tap at 10 yards. I love the LCP. Get one, carry it for a year and then get rid of it and see how long it takes you to get another one.

I had an LCP with a CT laser. After break-in it was fine for a couple of years. I would fire a couple of mags every couple of months. Then for some unknown reason the slide began to fail to fully cycle and the lint from my pocket would block the laser. I finally concluded that a pocket even with a holster is not a good place for a pistol.

Also a box of (100) .380 cost $35 whereas a box of (100) 9mm cost $21. About four months ago I decided to go for a Kel-Tec PF-9 and I'm much happier. I wear it just inside my belt on a clip that is attached to the frame. Because it is so slim it is undetectable. And I freed up my pocket for more practical things. It works much better all around.

In fairness, the only negative thing I can say about the PF-9 is that because it is so light the recoil is pretty harsh.

I did look at the Kahr, but it was slightly thicker and didn't fit comfortably in my hand. And the idea of adding the bulk of a IWB holster didn't appeal to me. I am a bit of a minimalist.

I have owned the following:

Kel-tec P3AT
Kahr P380
Ruger LCP
SW Bodyguard 380

Still have the LCP, ditched the others. The Kahr is much nicer to shoot in every way, and the Bodyguard has less felt recoil and nicer sights.

But the LCP, in my experience, is much more reliable than any of the others. It stays.

Reliability is the Number One criterion for a defense gun, and of the pocket pistols I have found the LCP to be the most reliable. It is the least sensitive to ammo and to how it is held, and seems much better built than the P3AT and the Smith.

I also have a Kahr CM9, which is a bit larger and heavier and not as easy to carry in a pocket. Also makes me nervous with occasional malfs. It is nicer to shoot and has a better trigger and longer effective range than the LCP.

Also have a Kel-tec P32, the best Kel-tec pistol in my opinion. But it is a bench player compared to the LCP.

Smith Airweights are also top notch for reliability and are perhaps the best in a pressure situation; revolvers are not sensitive to how they are held or whether the muzzle is in contact with an attacker. They are bulkier than the LCP, so won't always be carryable in a pocket.

For it's price point, no, there isn't any thing better than the LCP.

With that said, a S&W Airweight revolvers might work as a pocket pistol. The above posts all pointed out other great options as well.

The reason the LCP is so popular is that it is reliable, affordable and easy to carry and conceal. That means a lot to a lot of people.

+1 for the Smith & Wesson BG380.
Pretty much identical size/price but it looks a bit different.

Or, if you do like the looks of the Ruger, it's just a marked up kel-tec knock off, so you could save some money and buy a p3at. :D

I ditto the S&W J frame. I have a 640 which some might feel is too heavy for pocket carry, but I like the feel of stainless steel and don't want to buy another j-frame. Something about having 38+p rounds gives me more confidence than the little 380's in my LCP, even if I have only 5 rounds. I don't want to re-ignite this subject, but for me 5 rounds seems adequate for most self defense situations I might find myself in.
