pocket pistol accuracy

I'm definitely not using this as a tack driver or range gun. I just don't feel confident to reliable to be combat accurate from 10y with this. again, i think its largely the grip, I just feel like the gun slides around due to not having enough real estate to grip. i'm going to try and find a hogue or talon grip and see if that helps

Houge grips enabled me to make dramatic improvement with my sig p938.

Another thing that has helped me with my p938 is something I never do with any of my other guns, at all: Instead of having my finger in the middle of the trigger, I do my press from the top of the trigger, with the top side of my finger physically touching the frame inside the trigger guard. Not sure if thats gonna be a good suggestion with your glock 42, but for some damned reason it has helped me tighten groups alot with my little pocket pistol.

Seems strange to buy a little gun, and then add stuff to make it bigger.
Why not just buy a gun you can shoot, or learn to shoot the little one?

The new grips in my case hardly make it bigger, and make a world of difference for me. I dont think its strange to buy something I like, and then optimize its features to help me practice better fundamentals.

No reason to be condescending Bill. The Houge grip does not change a little pistol enough to make any discernable difference, except making it a little easier to hold on to.

Nothing condescending at all.
It just doesn't make sense to me. I understand minor modifications, but the guys that buy a Keltec P32 and stick a 10 round extended magazine in it and carry it befuddles me.

What can be called a true pocket pistol today? Maybe one that fits in a holster that is designed to fit in a jeans pocket?

Back in the early 1900s the Colt "Pocket" Hammerless was 24 oz and had a 4 inch barrel. The wardrobe in those days called for suits with large pockets I guess.

The most accurate small pistol I have shot is the Makarov (9X18) Depending on the size of a pocket it may qualify. Although it is twice as heavy as the 42 it is close to the dimensions. The Makarov is probably somewhat narrower. I don't own and have never shot a Glock 42 but have an XD Compact and they look similar in size.

I have found the Mak easy to shoot. At least as accurate as the two 1911s I have (Colt and Springfield) despite the minuscule sights and military trigger.

I'll agree with that sentiment, but due to its weight I would have to reinforce my pockets if I want to carry a Makaraov that way. It's slim profile works great IWB, though.

Bill

I most respectfully disagreed with you,,Tho, you are the expert, and very knowledgeable. There is a 'legal distance". It may not be defined in exactly those terms, however. If an 'threatening person' is within seven yards of me,, and even that is a considerable distance. I may shoot him to protect myself, or my employer. Close than 21 feet is defintely a danger zone. Now if he is ten yard away,, depending on many variables,, maybe, maybe not...However, beyond ten yards, probably could get into big trouble shooting him..

I was thinking about pocket pistols in general and remembered this,

Years ago I was at an auto auction and the friend who brought me said "look at that guys pocket"

The guy was a car dealer known by my friend who was also a dealer and his back pocket clearly showed the imprint of what appeared to be a Baby Browning .25 auto or the like...an exact imprint showing through his BACK pocket just like when someone pockets a can of chew in the same place all the time and a circular wear mark occurs...

I didn't have the balls to ask him about it but I can think of at lot of reasons not to carry that way but there it was...

Not a lawyer, but there is not an absolute on 'shooting distance' legality. It depends on whether the circumstances justify your use of legal force.

There have been cases of long distance shots by citizens in clearly defensive situations. So, there are no absolutes.

If some is shooting at you, or at a long distance attacking someone (even with a knife), the justification isn't distance.

Now can you make the shot with a pocket pistol or any handgun, that is a different story.

I have found that most small gun accuracy issues can usually be overcome with practice and familiarity with the firearm.

10-yards for a belly gun

Nice work gglass! some very impressive groups for ten yards with an lcp. Great shooting, and a great example that points to the fact, the gun is accurate, it is the shooter who is not, the shooter who enforces his will onto the pistol which makes it inaccurate by moving it around all willy nilly

Very impressive shooting gglass

with practice and familiarity

Yep if you really focus on the fundamentals sight picture and trigger control
Little guns can shoot pretty good this is 25 yards shot at a brisk pace.

We went from Jerry Miculek is a cyborg to String Theory all in one thread. Now THAT'S impressive thread drift!:D
As for micro guns - my last one was about 20 years ago, could never shoot it straight with inky dinky grips. Even the grips on the wife's CZ 2075 RAMi are too short for me. Now if I shoot the RAMI BD with the 14 round extended magazine, it becomes MUCH more shootable, and I will throw out I did hit a 1/2 scale IDPA steel target at 100 yards with it. Once. I didn't try again. :p
I am old fat married and ugly so I don't care what I look like off duty, and dress around the gun. My version of a pocket pistol is a CZ SP-01 Phantom or a CZ P-09, carried in high quality gear. Now maybe I'll get a chance to play with a CZ P-10C to see how well that one works, but the itty bitty mouse guns and pocket rockets, I just absolutely am terrible with, and yes, it's all me, not the belly guns fault.
Now one belly gun I would LOVE to try and would probably love isn't in this section...an Avenging Angel. ;)

Sig P238 and Walther PPK/S both in .380 at about 8 yards with various ammo.

At 8 yards. Gun could have done much better, poor shooter.

At 8 yards Ruger LC9 in 9mm as the name implies above and Colt Defender in 45 acp below. I like the Defender. The LC9 I sold, I could never get any good with it.

M640 15 rounds at 15 yards.

8 yards rapid fire 158 gr. +P LSWCHP Remington

10 yards, 20 rounds aimed fire 115 gr. Fed. jhp S&W Shield. A favorite.
