Pistols!

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's "wrong", I just don't believe the 1911 is a platform best done on a shoestring budget, which a Rock Island pistol at $400-$500 is. You've obviously had fine experiences with them and I think that's terrific. And it sounds like you've used parts of them to build fine running pistols, perhaps you should get in touch with the OP's Dad and do a budget build for him.

I agree with you there. I was wondering if you had heard some info that I haven't seen, such as metallurgical problems or what have you.

As far as my "build-ups," they all have been as basic shooters, done with Brazilian slides and the leftover GI parts I have, and were built as utility pieces. I would never presume to build up a precision target gun on such a frame.

I have seen plenty of Armscor guns on my various trips to the Philippines; What surprised me is that all the 1911s I saw were in 9mm.

I don't really want to say what it is at the risk of making anyone mad.

If someone is so emotionally invested in their choice of firearm for you, that they would become angry if you chose another, then ....maybe their advice (and subsequent commentary) is a bit too biased for you to take seriously. There is an "ignore" button for such people.

I vote for my favorite ..... almost a ".32" ..... Nagant Revolver. It'd go niecely w/ your Mosin .... same bore diameter and everything .....

R51. Called it.

Seriously, the new batch supposedly coming in October with better attention to detail are likely to be a solid option for under 400$

Ding ding ding!

Ladies and Mentlegen, we have a winner (s)!
"Now this here is the story about the Rock Island line..."

1- rock island

:D Asked my dad about it today and he said I could get one for Christmas. :D

Another question, how many 14 year Olds do you know who listen to Johnny Cash? :D

My son was 8 when he started listening to Johnny cash. Unfortunately he has since digressed to music I care little about and like even less. Good choice. Get the tactical version. What caliber did you decide on?

I'd like it to be the traditional .45 ACP. But it really just comes down to what the LGS has in stock. They have one with wooden grips and (what looks like) a Parkerized finish in .45 ACP.

Welcome to the 1911 disease.

+1.

You do realize that this will ruin you to all other (inferior) trigger systems ? .....

It's OK, though ..... there are more 1911's out there than you can beg, borrow, or steal .....

Hi-points are made of zamak. Many older gun owners and machinists think it is an extremely unreliable material because of how it was made before production was computerized. It is much more reliable now. The major cost savings in the hipoint is actually in using a direct blowback design. They are very robust. There ared many documented cases of them firing double+ charges without catastrophic failure and in fact continuing to function. In one case with a barrel obstruction. I haven't seen that done with any other gun.
They are bulky. Very close to glock 27 dimensions but single stack. They are ugly. I have had about a half dozen or so pass through my hands. All C9s. They all worked as advertised.
You will eventually want something else sleeker if you stick with it. By then you will have a better idea what you want.
Almost any 22 is better imo though.
