Pistol permits

Jim O: Call your local police or go down there and ask them to change the number of handgun permits you want. I had them change mine to 4 a few days after I filled the paperwork out, there was no problem.

The detective in charge of these app's called and told me the 4th would run-out but to come down and have it extended and I'll be fine.

Now, for all those that are busting our balls, this is the way we have to deal with living in NJ. Doesn't matter if we agree or disagree, we have to follow the laws the Democraps force down our throats here.

It is amazing that anyone can say that any amount of gun control keeps people from doing harm to people is beyond me. OKC bombing ...no gun used to kill ... Simpson goldberg murders .. no guns used, just to name a couple. And having to ask permission OMG saying it is quicker? OKlahoma I walk in see a gun I want... 30 minutes after ( background check ) out the door headed to the range. No having to wait 2 weeks to find out if I am worthy .No backside kissing. God bless Oklahoma and states like it.

Its up to your local PD. They can increase the amount, but may not. Its best to get the max when you apply. Bear in mind that you have to wait 30 days between purchases.

Here in Iowa-- We either need a permit to purchase which is good for 1 year and unlimited handguns.... Or.... We use our carry permit which is good for 5 years and allows us to purchase unlimited as well. lol, or however many we choose to afford ;p

Just my two cents

I lived in MN for 60 yrs and if it is a shall issue state the police don't know that. Tried for a C&C or purchase for +10 yrs, I owned a business and transported money, in Roseville MN, the old boss, JIM told me on many occasions JUST CARRY IT IN THE CAR IF YOU ARE STOPPED TELL THEM YOU ARE TRANSPORTING IT HOME OR TO THE OFFICE, I WILL NOT SIGN FOR ANY PERMIT FOR ANYONE. Here in AZ got the permit in no time at all and I DO CARRY 80% OF THE TIME

Also glad I live in Georgia. The Firearms Transaction Record and background check required by the BATFE should be sufficient for all states. To my understanding, the background check verifies a clean federal, state and local record. If you have a Firearms carry permit, then the form is completed, kept by the seller, but the background check at time of sale is not required.

Separate subject - I know this will be controversial, but as former military where safe gun handling is part of your training, I do support the requirement for a gun safety course/test before a state issues a carry license. It's been explained to me that this is the reason S. Carolina does not have reciprocity with Georgia, as Georgia does not require the course/test. There are many individuals, without a military or LE background, that want to carry guns and have little to no clue how to safely handle and operate guns.

Sorry, drb1611, I took another look at the wording in the Second Amendment and I still can't find where the Founders intended for Americans who want to freely bear arms to pass a safety test before they do so. Is there some kind of fine print in there that I'm missing?

When the Bill of Rights was written, was it intended to apply to the States or was it intended to curtail the new Federal Government?

Are those with permits from S. Carolina demonstrably safer than those with permits from Georgia? I've never seen any study or statistics that indicate that mandated training/safety training has made any difference at all in the use of a handgun by a permit holder. If you can link to such a study or statistical data, I would certainly appreciate it!

A military of LEO background does not ensure an ability to safely handle and operate guns. Not all military are trained in handgun safety and operation - some military have gotten no training at all in the use of firearms. There is a fairly large body of information concerning poor decisions or firearms errors made by LEOs.

i was born and lived in new jersey when i was young..now i live in massachusetts.... we have some of the strictest gun laws here but i can still carry concealed and buy pretty much anything i want whenever i want and no limit to the amount of guns i can buy.. even though where i live is strict new jersey laws are pretty pathetic compared....

In 1987 in Illinois getting a FOID card or renewing a FOID card took about 3 weeks. It might take a month at most. Now the turn around time for getting or renewing a FOID is taking over 3 months.

That's just ridiculous. It shouldn't take 1/4 of a year to get a FOID. There is a bill that was introduced in the Illinois legislature to end the FOID program altogether.

Another problem is that the The Associated Press filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Illinois State Police to obtain the names of Firearm Owner Identification Card (FOID) holders. ISP denied the request on the grounds that it could be "information that would endanger the life and physical safety of law enforcement personnel or any other person."

The Attorney General's Office reviewed ISP's denial and wrote a letter to ISP detailing that FOID information is public record and should be made available to the public and the press.

Illinois state police still refused to release it.

There are bills making their way to the govenor to stop this and I don't think the names will be released. I wonder what would hapen if the names ever were released I think there would be a tremendous backlash that might result in the Illinois FOID program being abolished.

On a positive note, the last attempt to create a CC law last week was very very close. It looks like the bill was only short by 4 votes. This is so so much better than 20 years ago when the bulk of our activity was spent opposing gun control legislation. Every time I turned around there was some new bill designed to criminalize gun ownership, or gun manufacturing, or the transportation of firearms. It was like the death of a thousand cuts, dozens of bills being proposed by the anti-gun politicians. Now the gun control advocates are on the ropes in Illinois and using the bulk of their time and money trying to defeat bills that would abolish the Illinois FOID program, and the proposed CC law.

The so-called Illinois "FOID" card is one of the most un-American, anti-Second Amendment atrocities ever foisted on American citizens-and I don't care if they issue it instantly or it takes them a decade. But yet there will apparently always be a faction of gun owners and so-called Second Amendment advocates (they've already made their presence known in this very thread) who will argue, "Well, if it just keeps one gun from getting into the hands of a criminal..." :barf:

>>By the way I am in New Jersey!!!!<<

Jim... the bottom line is... get the hell out of New Jersey!
