persuade me, why a 1911?

I find this funny, it like one man trying to convince another as to why Blondes are better than Brunettes. Just go out and try several and then decide. When you buy a car dont you take it out for a test drive? I would suggest you do the same with any gun your considering. Find a range near your home and rent or borrow several and then make a decision. BTW, not all 1911's are single stacks i.e. Para-Ordnance, SV, STI, Caspian etc

Lots of variations
Purchased ammo is cheaper compared to new-fangled calibers
Brass is easy to pick out a bucket
Low pressure cartridge extends life of brass and barrel
 
Everyone else has already listed a lot of reasons to own not just one but several 1911s. There are probably a lot more reasons but the simple basic fact is that the 1911 is a classic.

It's like the saying about Harleys, "There are only two kinds of bike riders in the world, those that own Harleys and those that wish they did." "There are only two kinds of pistoleros..."
