Bear aren't the only thing in the woods that one might have to worry about. Wolves have threatened some hikers in the lower 48 and they run in packs, hence the desirability of a high capacity platform.
As I said, the 10mm will equal a 357mag in a 6" bbl so it's not the same as a 44mag. However, the harsh recoil and spade grip make a 44mag revolver difficult to hold on to vs the grip of a semi-auto.
Well aimed followup shots with a 44mag revolver can't be performed very quickly at all. Well aimed followup shots with a Glock 20 are much easier because the grip is much more ergonomically shaped and it's polymer frame make it a relatively mild recoiling platform.
For example, I challenge anyone to fire 100rds of hot 44mag ammo from any 6" bbl revolver in 1 hour accurately and not have a sore hand, wrist, and/or arm.
I have personally fired 200rds of my hot 10mm (165grn @ 1,503fps; 829lb/ft ME) in 1 hour from my G20L without any distress on more than one occasion. So, when I'm in the Rockies, I pack my G20L.
