People don't like target shooting?

Anything gets boring if it's not mixed up a little bit. Add in a little movement, different shooting positions, some friendly competition, time limits, etc.

Paper is for checking sights, checking loads and if your into such things, keeping score. Other than that shooting paper is a just wasting lead. Always has been.

I wish I was able to shoot enough to get tired of punching paper.

As can be seen by the previous responses, some folks are easily entertained and some aren't. :D

Me? I like producing little groups (at least attempting to produce little groups); an affliction which is tending more toward an obsession since I started reloading.

If or when you get tired of paper punching, try shooting in an IDPA, bowling pin or steel match.

(Note of caution: DO NOT get into betting situations with paper punching people.)

I do not get tired or bored with shooting paper targets because I do all my own reloading and seking the most accurate round for each of my guns. It is very rewarding to load your own ammo and perfect your guns accuracy.

Also the out door range that I shoot at has a rifle up to 300 yards, pistol up to 50 yards, combat and plinking ranges. If you get bored with paper punching you can always go to a different range other than just a paper punching range. The plinking range allows anything except glass or flammable targets. You can shoot tin cans, plastic milk jugs filled with water and watch them explode, you can set up clay pigeons and watch them shatter.

I rarely punch paper indoors other than as a shakedown run for a new piece. I enjoy destroying objects outdoors and no, I haven't gotten tired of that. :D

My range doesn't allow us to do anything but shoot targets and each shot has to be at least 1 second apart. Also when the target gets full of holes it hard to see how I'm grouping. What I did was "refresh" the target after ten shots with white round stickers. That way I can see how my groupings progresses. If it's all over the target it's time to take a break.

It helps to see your mistakes and correct them before it becomes a habit. I can say I improved my shooting by being able to see the patterns from each 10 rounders.

It's pretty much paper for me. I find keeping a target with a tight group is like having a photograph of a favored memory. I have had several of my best groups witnessed and I cheerfully do it for others.

I enjoy punching paper as much as anything else. But, I do like a variety.....steel targets on some days, paper on others....even breaking clay pigeons occasionally.

One thing: steel plates don't exactly tell much about how a new gun (or any gun) is grouping. So, for testing loads, paper is really the only way.

Target shooting is definitely fun but not something I'd want to do every day. I just really enjoy gun ownership and reading about different firearms....I guess I get the most joy out of simply owning and admiring guns.

I'd like to go skeet shooting, some places around here... I really just want to pop some cans with my 22lrs and have a blast. Target shooting is good, but its more fun to beable to knock down cans like I do with my bb guns. The problem is theres no "open" ranges around here that allow you to shoot cans/bottles.

The thing I hate about the indoor ranges is theres no "rapid" fire, its like a 1 seconed wait[used to be 3-4] but they want to make sure you are aimming. The outdoor ones[allow full autos] will let you do rapid fire.

I don't want to shoot everyday, everyweek. I try to go once a month or every other month, and when I do its like 300+ rounds of 22lr and sometimes other calibers.

I like to learn SAA revolver 22lr shooting, but like I said no "open ranges" to let you learn how to shoot like that. I like to get a metal stand and play that knock down game, I forget whats it called.

Ive shot paper for over 35 years. The trick is to compete against others and to go for the difficult 10x in all 4 positions.... When you can make all the rounds appear to go through one very close to normal size hole you will have reached target shooting enlightenment.. :)

Target shooting for me is far more enjoyble than most activities such as being at work , mowing the lawn , watching TV or even the gun boards.

Some ranges only allow paper targets.

Most of the "shooters" I know that put down target shooting simply can't shoot and paper targets show them that fact very clearly.

Punching paper gets old real quick and past 30 yards it's tough to see your hits with iron sights. Shooting steel lets you know when you are getting hits at longer distances and is much more satisfying IMO.

Dang it 223 shooter,,,

Most of the "shooters" I know that put down target shooting simply can't shoot and paper targets show them that fact very clearly.

Yer upsetting my alibi cart! ;)

I have one of those bright green plastic spinner targets,,,
It's about 4" across and I consider that to be "center mass" size.

As long as I'm hitting that with every shot,,,
I'm doing just fine in my book.

I'm an old fart and my eyes simply won't let me score those tight groups,,,
I do shoot paper plates taped to the spinner every now and then,,,
Just to see if my groups are anywhere near the bullseye,,,
5 yards to 15 yards and there isn't much difference,,,
At 25 yards I average 4 hits out of 5 shots,,,
I'm happy with that scoring.

Reactive targets are much more fun. Tin cans and chunks of firewood, or whatnot. I want to get a duelling tree one of these days. Shooting paper is just too boring.
About once every two months we go to a shooting area. The wife and daughter like to get a case of small bottled waters and shoot them. The small water explosions are very exciting. I like to then shoot the already empty bottles and make them dance. :D

Honestly, I am such a self-proclaimed 'gun-nut' that I like to at times open my safe and simply take out a gun and either polish it or just admire its magnificent engineering--so the shooting is something that is never boring to me (though some forms are more exciting than others to be sure).

Shooting is like golf for me. Give me a .22, a brick, and some dime sized targets and I'll shoot short range all day.
Like I said, no "open ranges" for me in this area to do this.
