Other than derringers and the NAA Mini's,,,

Hey again microgunner,,,

Apt name for the topic I must say,,, :)

Actually the laser for a mini doesn't seem that outrageous,,,
Beats the heck out of the bayonet they also market.

It's small and fits the character of the gun,,,
Of course it's also half again the price of the gun.

That laser and LarryNTX's bipod,,,
Who knows how accurate a shooter could become.

The little Beretta 21 A in22LR is a small fun pinker . I have 2 here at house Their reliable also. But for carry I use the Beretta in 25 auto .As it is better than 22 from short barrel . Out of the 2" barrels 25 walks the 22 in every thing . 22 needs 3 or more inches. 22 mag needs about 4 inch barrel .
In a small auto my 22 short Astra cub will give a 22LR a run for its money Again the short uses all its powder in the 2". the LR is still burning as it leaves the 2" Like a 357 snub lot of noise and flash from all that unburnt powder.

One night I fired my Beretta 21 A with CCI stingers and It had a worst muzzle flash. Than my 45 DAN WESSON shooting 185 DPX +P I never thought a 22 would have that much flash.

The .22 Beretta is a Wildcat
the bigger .25 is the Bobcat
and the .32 is the Tomcat

Love my .22 and it never jammed or stovepiped.
Hmmmm...

Well I love correct info, so here it is: The tomcat is .32, the bobcat is 25 or 22. The bobcat is also known as the model 21A. There wasn't a Beretta Wildcat.

Are those things even legal? [Braverman / Stinger pen gun]

I would LOVE to have one of those in my shirt pocket.

Now, that's a very good question. They are perfectly legal to own - same as any other non-NFA firearm. But, can you wear it in a shirt pocket? Technically, even if you have a CCW, it would at least be partially exposed - so in some states, you might not be permitted to carry it that way....technically. But, if I had one, I'd carry it in my shirt pocket - its just too cool not to on special occasions - like going out for BBQ with my buddies.:D

The Berettas and PT-22s are very picky. I've seen them be terrible jammers. If you want one for fun - great.

If you want it for real - then you'd better wring it out extensively.

It's more for a fun range toy than anything else,,,

The idea of an NAA Mini with a laser just makes me smile,,,
So I am leaning towards a Magnum with the extra LR cylinder.

Hello Glenn,,,

I hear what you are saying about the reliability of the Beretta and Taurus guns,,,
What would a person who bought one do to "wring it out extensively",,,
Shoot a lot of Mini-Mags through it to break it in?

The only other gun in this category is the taurus PLY,,,
They have been in the Taurus catalog forever,,,
I've never met anyone who has seen one.

For a serious .22 I have a Model 18 and a Model 34 snubbie,,,
I just want something that's cute and fun to shoot,,,
Maybe drop it in my pocket when walking.

Woohoo!,,,
I just checked and Buds Gun Shop has the PLY in stock,,,
I have $250.00 in a fun-money account and I can hear it calling me.

Anyone have any hearsay or solid info on this particular gun?
Is it just a Taurus P-22 with a polymer frame?

NAA recently debuted their "Ranger", which is a top break version of their mini .22 revolver. It definitely grabbed my interest, and it's really got me looking at these little guns in a different way.

That Ranger is really cute,,,

But,,,

Its MSRP is $499.00
More than I could ever make myself spend on a toy.

Besides the fact,,,
I don't think the laser would fit it.

My dad has the Beretta 21A. Bobcat, I think.

Really fun gun, but absolute jam-o-matic with cheap brick .22.

I may be incorrect (probably am, it's been years since I shot that thing) but I think you get better luck with high speed ammo (CCI Stingers maybe).

To wring it out, one should get a couple hundred rounds of the brand you might commonly use and shoot them.

My PT-22 failed on everything. It was a horror. It would stove pipe. It wouldn't feed. It would eject an entire round rather than feed it. It tried to eject a live round and the slide slammed on it and bent it in half. Scared the crap out of me.

I tried a new mag, different brands of ammo, polished the ramp, etc. I could have sent it in and wasted time and money. I sold it back to a dealer at a loss.

I also had the opportunity to fire a very well known gun rights advocate's Beretta - it was a jammer also.

In those small guns, the 25s work better.

If you got one that was reliable after shooting quite a few rounds, then it might work for you. Some folks report their guns work.

My NAAs work. I've seen the breaktop - cute but too expensive.

My Beretta 21A Bobcat 22lr (two years old) jammed a lot when I first got it, but the more I shot it at about 500 shots, it doesn't hardly ever jam, and I only have cleaned the bore a few times.

I read in an older manual online for the Bobcat, it stated not to take it apart and clean it to often. All I've done is lubed it and swabbed the bore a few times, and she running sweet.

I have an NAA Pug in .22mag and love it a lot; with .22mag I feel safe carrying it on dog walks, tho I wouldn't recommend it for regular SD carry ... one other thing to take into consideration; tho .22lr is cheaper than mag, in my experience it FTF far more than mag rounds, even tho both are rimfire...

So I guess those are the choices,,,

If you rule out Derringers (which I do not want to own),,,
In the really small category of .22 handgun these are the choices?

Beretta's,,,
NAA Mini's,,,
Taurus P-22's.

I'm just not feeling any love from the semi-auto's,,,
And the $225 to $250 price tag on the Mini's are leaving me cold.

But I still want another .22 pistol,,,
So I guess I'm going to look at larger guns like the Bersa.

Thanks for all of your input gentlemen,,,
It was interesting reading your posts.

Beretta Tomcat

I love my .32 Beretta Inox Tomcat. Fits in your pocket, packs a wallop close to a .380, very accurate and fun to shoot at the range.

Sig Mosquito

Oh, and if you're stuck on .22 (can't be the price of ammo!), I recently saw the Sig Mosquito. Very nice .22 LR.....just not a pocket pistol. I've had a Browning Buckmaster 22 LR for almost 25 years, it's a great range toy and I must have shot 10,000 rounds without an issue. Extremely accurate.
